GS)--One of three people charged last year in connection with the shooting death of an Enid man at a local convenience store pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday. 19 year-old Jose Juan Zamarron waived his preliminary hearing to enter into a guilty plea on two of the four initial counts he was facing related to the death of 34-year-old Kristopher Osborn, who was working as a clerk at Maine Street Mini Mart when he was fatally shot on February 18, 2022. Zamarron received a life sentence with Oklahoma Department of Corrections, without the possibility of parole, on one count of first-degree murder; and five years in prison, to run concurrently, on one count of assault while masked. Two other people were charged in connection with Osborn’s death. 22 year-old James Parker and 19-year-old Alejandro Ahumada each is facing one count of first-degree murder and one count of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Both Parker and Ahumada are scheduled for bond appearances on June 6, 2023.

IA)--An Enid man was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding crashed Saturday in northern Grant County. 66 year-old Douglas Leroy Taylor was transported by ambulance to Caldwell Regional Medical Center in Kansas and transferred by air to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., where he was admitted in serious condition with head and trunk injures. Oklahoma Highway patrol officials said the crash that occurred around 3:10 Saturday afternoon on US 81 just south of the Kansas state line. According to the OHP report, Taylor was northbound on the highway, when he missed a curve and departed the roadway, traveling 340 feet before the motorcycle laid over and came to rest in a ditch. The condition of the driver was listed as normal, with the cause of the collision on the report as unsafe speed.

FC)—An Alva man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Grant County in the early morning hours of Sunday. 62 year-old Barton Rogge was pronounced dead due to a medical condition at the scene on State Highway 11 about 9 miles west of Medford. Authorities said Rogge was westbound in a 2001 Peterbilt semi when he ran off the road, went through the ditch and embankment before coming to rest in a wheat field. Rogge’s condition and the cause of the accident remain under investigation.

BM)--The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners will meet in Special Session Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. According to the agenda, the will discuss and take possible action on the 2023-2024 Fiscal Year Budget. In other business, commissioners will meet in executive session to discuss a pending claim related to the Kaw Lake Water Pipeline project. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers of the City Administration Building on West Garriott and is open to the public.

MS)--Main Street Enid won one award at Oklahoma Main Street Center’s 33rd annual Main Street Awards Banquet last week in Oklahoma City. Enid’s Park Avenue Thrift was named Premier Partner at the statewide awards ceremony. The award recognizes contributions by an individual, business or organization partnering with the local Main Street organization toward the work of the local program. In 2022, Park Avenue Thrift gave more than $362,000 to 26 organizations. The thrift store focuses on funding visual and/or performing arts, education, environmental sustainability and projects that keep Enid unique and a place where people want to be. Main Street Enid had three other finalists;  Outstanding Community Engagement Effort, Tools for Your Business, which promotes business growth of the Hispanic community in Enid; Outstanding Business Expansion, Enid Axe; and Business of the Year, Settlers Brewing Co.

PF)— A possible countywide sales tax increase will be the subject of a special election Tuesday as a proposition that calls for a 0.30%, or 30 cents for every $100 spent, increase to the county sales tax rate for 15 years. The revenue would be earmarked to fund the operation, maintenance, construction, equipping and improvement of the Garfield County Detention Facility. GCDF has an operational capacity of 193 beds and a design capacity of 232 beds and has been over capacity for more than 11 years since its 2005 opening. Included in the resolution are the addition of 82 beds in dormitory-style housing and 16,000 square feet; the renovation of part of the current 45,000-square-foot building; and construction of medical, administrative and visitation spaces, as well as a space for educational and religious programs. Polling precincts across Garfield County will be open 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Tuesday for the special election
