DN)--Derwin Norwood retained his seat as Ward 2 Enid city commissioner during Tuesday’s runoff election, defeating Doug Boyle, 459-353, or 56.53% of the vote. Norwood will be sworn in for a new four year term, along with Mayor-elect David Mason, Ward 1 Commissioner-elect Judd Blevins, and Ward 5 incumbent Rob Stallings who ran unopposed.

CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners Tuesday night decided to not seek a contract with Garfield County Criminal Justice Authority for the upcoming fiscal year beginning July 1. During an executive session commissioners discussed ongoing negotiations with GCCJA regarding a new jail agreement and the ongoing dispute over the jail administrator’s failure to accept arrestees’ personal property during the booking process. After spending a little less than an hour in executive session, commissioners reconvened and voted 6-0 on the decision, which City Manager Jerald Gilbert said means the city of Enid will not use the Garfield County Detention Facility to house municipal inmates on city violations anymore.

 

In other business, commissioners approved in number of consents items including five resolutions authorizing the city’s participation in opioid settlement agreements. Enid has participated with other cities and counties in litigation over pharmaceutical opioids with the state. The current settlements, that could total up to $1.5 million, are with pharmaceutical supply chain participants, and the agenda items state that the reference to the back-stop agreements involves attorney fees. The payments would be made over multiple years.

WF)--Authorities in Major County issued an evacuation notice Tuesday for an area south of Fairview due to a wildfire. A Facebook post by Major County Sheriff’s Office, said the notice was related to a large fire in the Longdale area producing large amounts of smoke. Tuesday evening, Oklahoma Highway Patrol announced it was closing State Highway 58 at the Blaine-Major County line due to a grass fire that is jumping the highway. The highway was closed just after 7:00 Tuesday evening, and reopened just after 2:00 this morning.

PA)--Megan Daniels, PA-C, will join Integris Family Care of Enid, and will be based on the second floor of Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. She holds a bachelor's of science in health sciences from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and later attended the University of Oklahoma's Physician Associate Program. Her areas of interest include family care, pediatrics, dermatology and women's health. IW)--Beginning today the intersection of West Randolph and North Garland will be replacing the traffic control cabinet. The intersection will be without power intermittently, between the hours of 8:30 AM and 2:30 PM. During these outages stop signs will be posted. Motorists are encouraged to follow posted traffic control signs and to drive with caution in this area during the construction effort.
