CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners Tuesday night during their regular meeting approved a $47,000 contract with a California artist for an interactive piece of art that will be placed along the Enid Trail System. In other action, the commission approved the payment of a nearly $105,000 Workers Compensation judgement, and following a short executive session to discuss the Garfield County Criminal Justice Authority’s breach of the city’s 2005 jail agreement and negotiations concerning a new long-term agreement reconvened in regular session, but took no action on the item. During the public comment opportunity, commissioners heard comments from 15 residents about a couple of topics including issues surrounding the Public Library of Enid and Garfield County’s Board of Directors and a recently elected city commissioner who some say had previously supported white supremacy causes.

PC)--A Wichita police officer, who once worked briefly for Enid Police Department, has been charged in Garfield County with sexual abuse of a child under 12 years of age and lewd molestation. Enid News and Eagle reports, on Monday, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas arrested 32-year-old Brock England, who was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail and charged with the two counts in Garfield County District Court. Wichita Police Department officials said England, who was off-duty at the time of his arrest, has been employed by WPD for seven years and will be on administrative leave pending the outcome of both the criminal and internal investigations. The allegations are that over a period of several years, England had sexually molested several girls in the rural area surrounding Bison. Sedgwick County also was investigating allegations that occurred in Wichita. England’s bond has been set at $250,000.

TF)--Enid Public Schools will host its annual Teacher Career Fair, 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday in the Administrative Services Center board room, 500 S. Independence. EPS administrators will be available to speak with potential candidates, accept resumes and schedule interviews for a later date. EPS provides a competitive starting salary, paying an average $3,800 more per step than the state scale, as well as a $2,000 signing bonus for secondary math, science, special education and foreign language. A)-- People 60 years of age or older will have the opportunity to receive free legal aid advice and counseling locally next week. Long Term Care Authority of Enid Area Agency on Aging will have an informative presentation at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at RSVP Senior Center, 202 W. Walnut, on senior aging documents. Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, will be available at the event to answer questions about preparing a will and power of attorney, as well as many other topics. Additionally there will be information about services LTCA of Enid AAA offers locally. The event is free to the public.

MG)--In honor of Sam Justice, 4RKids will be have its annual mini golf tournament fundraiser on Saturday. It will be an all-day event from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. at 4RKids Mini Golf, 710 Overland Trail. Proceeds will benefit the 4RKids Foundation. Since its founding in 2003, the 4RKids Foundation’s mission is to promote community awareness of individuals with developmental disabilities and to provide vocational, educational and social/recreational opportunities for children and adults with special needs in Northwest Oklahoma. The mini golf tournament is open to anyone in the community. Children and families play anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Adult drinks available for purchase from 8:00-11:00 p.m. Participants may play as individuals or as teams. Players will be divided by age group. Winners will place based on the final score after completion of the 18-hole miniature golf course. Winners will be announced on Monday. The cost to enter the tournament is $5 per player or $20 for a group of four. Players can enter at any point during the event. WF)--The City of Enid is taking nominations for recipients for the 2023 “Walk of Fame” Award to be presented in September during the celebration of the Cherokee Strip Days. The Walk of Fame is an award given by the Mayor and Board of Commissioners of the City of Enid to individuals that have made significant contributions to the Enid community. To be considered for the Walk of Fame, a person shall:

 

*Have demonstrated a lifetime of service to the community in general; or

 

*Have made an extraordinary contribution or act of selflessness or statesmanship for Enid.

 

Nominations will be accepted in the Office of the City Clerk until 5:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, May 31. Nominations received after that time will be retained for consideration the following year. The Walk of Fame committee will review the nominations, consider those persons who meet the criteria outlined above, and perform any needed investigation to insure appropriateness. The Committee may also consider persons who do not receive nominations. Information may be obtained in the office of the City Clerk at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Municipal Complex.
