SB)--After serving as the Enid Public Schools Superintendent since 2014, Dr. Darrell Floyd announced his retirement during the Enid Public Schools board meeting Monday.  Floyd sent his resignation letter to the district after the conclusion of the meeting. He is retiring effective June 30.  Floyd came to Enid after serving as superintendent in Stephenville, Texas. Floyd oversaw a $92.8 million bond issue passed in 2016 that built a new gymnasium and theater, as well as additional capital improvements across 17 schools in the district. The search will now begin for the district’s new superintendent.

 

Also on Monday, Cameron Conder was named as the next Enid High School Plainsmen head football coach. Conder will take over the position after serving as the EHS offensive coordinator since 2015 with a brief stint as the head coach at Locust Grove Public Schools in 2019. He was previously assigned as the interim head coach after Rashaun Woods announced his resignation in early 2023. Conder and his wife, Shanan, have been married for 28 years and have three boys.

IA)--One person was injured Monday in a two-vehicle accident in the 3700 block of East Randolph. An Enid Police Department spokesman said the injured woman was operating a Kubota utility vehicle, According to the report, the woman was following a skid steer loader heading west on Randolph, when another vehicle swerved to go around and a Suburban following that vehicle hit the Kubota,  knocking it into the ditch. The woman was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. There was no information about her condition.

BS)—Free Flu and Covid shots and boosters will be available today. The Garfield County Health Department mobile van will be at Our Daily Bread at 616 West Randolph from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The free shots will be available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last.

CD)--The 2023 Champagne and Diamonds Gala in support of 4RKids will take place inside the ballroom at the Stride Bank Center in Enid on Friday. Doors open at 6:00 pm.  The gala starts at 7:00 pm. Cocktail Attire Executive Director Rachel McVay said, “4RKids is honored to work with KOFM, Mead Jewelers, and Great Plains Bank for the 2nd annual Champagne and Diamonds Gala. Our partnership with KOFM allows us to showcase the opportunities at 4RKids, and raise important funding. The Champagne and Diamonds Gala is an inspiring and fun-filled evening of dining, dancing, and live music featuring “The Drive” from OKC. Tickets are $75 each. Each ticket includes dinner and one champagne flute. Inside each flute, there will be a gemstone.  One of the flutes contains a genuine “One Carat Round Brilliant Cut” Diamond worth $7500.  Mead Jewelers will examine each gemstone and the winner will be announced at the end of the evening. Additional flutes can be purchased for $60 each or receive a discount of $50 each for two flutes or more.
