SR)--The outdoor ice skating rink in downtown Enid will open for the holiday season on this afternoon at 3:00. Holidays on Ice, a partnership between Main Street Enid and Stride Bank Center, will be open through Jan. 8. Holidays on Ice, title sponsored this year by Visit Enid and the city of Enid, is located in the Stride Bank Center’s southern parking lot. Hours will be 3:00-9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 3:00-11:00 p.m. Friday; noon to 11:00 p.m. Saturday; and noon to 9:00 p.m. Sunday.  Around 10,000 skaters visited Holidays on Ice last year. Admission is $14 per person, which includes skates and a wristband that allows for all-day skating. With a military ID, the admission is $12, and for those who bring their own skates or are 5 years old and younger, the price for admission is $10. Season passes are $60 each, and group skating rates and party packages are available, as well. Certain days will have specials like buy one, get one 50% off or a family four-pack deal. TF)--Tyson Foods will host one of its food distribution days on Saturday at Oakwood Mall. From 9:00 a.m. to noon, Tyson volunteers will be on hand to distribute meals to any who ask for them. They will donate 20-pound cases of uncooked breaded chicken fritters, which are similar to breaded chicken tenders. Pat Bourke with Tyson Foods said Tyson does two to three food distribution days each year in Enid, and any food that is left over is donated to the community freezer at RSVP. Saturday’s distribution will have 1,850 cases of chicken. There is no requirement to receive a case of chicken, as they will be distributed to whoever is in line to receive one. Oakwood Mall is located at 4125 W. Garriott, and the distribution will take place in the parking lot.

TG)--Trustees of Enid Public School Foundation awarded 27 grants totaling more than $21,000 to classroom teachers Thursday. Classrooms will receive new materials in a variety of subject areas including math, aviation, reading and music when they return from Thanksgiving break. Grants are awarded as part of a competitive process, with priority given to innovative projects deemed to have the greatest impact on student learning. Several teachers joined together to co-write grants and share materials across classrooms, stretching the impact of dollars invested during this cycle. EPSF provides grants twice a year, in the fall semester and the spring semester. Grant proposals are judged anonymously. The teacher grant program is largely funded through endowment funds. NC)--County music stars Clay Walker and Tracy Lawrence are coming to Stride Bank Center on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. Both artists have sold millions of albums and produced a slew of hit songs and albums. Tickets range from $39.00 up to $124.00 and will be going on sale Friday, November 18, at 10:00 a.m.

PN)--Need an evening without the kids? The City of Enid Parks and Recreation Department invite all kids to the Parents’ Night Out event at Champion Gym from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19th. This event will allow parents to drop off the kids (ages 4 thru 14) for an evening of arts and crafts, movies, games, popcorn, fun, and more. Additionally, on this special night, kids will watch the movie, The Polar Express. The event is free, however, please register your children at www.Enid.org/ParentsNightOut to secure a spot by Monday, November 14th for the event. TS)--In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the City of Enid administration offices, Enid Animal Welfare, Enid Public Library, Enid Public Transportation Authority (EPTA) and the Recycle Center will be closed Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th. The library will also be closed on Saturday, November 26th. The landfill will be closed on Thursday, November 24th and will be opened with operating hours from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, November 25th. The Meadowlake Golf Course will be closed Thursday, November 24th and will be opened from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 25th. NOTE: Due to the holiday, Thursday’s regular trash route will be collected on Monday, November 21st, 28th, and December 1st. All other trash schedules will remain as regularly scheduled.

AP)--Ann Price will serve as grand lighting marshal for the lighting ceremony for The One Christ Tree on November 25 in downtown Enid. The tree, 140 feet tall, will feature more than 20,000 lights and 10,000 ornaments. Price is an Enid resident who was a teacher and is a retired director of Hope Outreach Parenting Ministry. The festivities will kick off alongside Enid Lights Up the Plains at 6:15 p.m. Nov. 25 and will feature pre-ceremony music at 7:10 p.m. The welcome ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the tree will be lit just before 8:00 p.m. There will be a Christmas concert at 8:15 p.m. The festivities will be hosted by Alan Clepper of My Country 103.1 KOFM, and Scott Smith of K-LOVE and Air1. The opening night kicks off a 40-day celebration of the holiday season, which will feature activities and Christmas themes throughout the celebration.

 

”Last year’s opening night was beyond anything we expected, bringing more than 30,000 people to downtown Enid. This year, we anticipate even more people to come and enjoy a truly magical evening that includes seeing the world’s tallest Christmas tree light up for the first time this holiday season,” Kyle Williams, founder of The One, said. “It’s truly a one-of-a-kind experience that has touched so many people across the nation, and we are looking forward to another memorable evening.”
