FA)--Authorities are investigating a fatal incident Thursday at an ADM facility in Enid. According to Enid Police officials, first responders were dispatched at Thursday morning to the ADM facility, in the 2500 block of N. 16th, in reference to a fall with injuries. EPD confirmed that 38-year-old Dustin Cain Buffalo died and said the incident remains under investigation. Several people said a number of employees were sent home following the death.

SF)--Damage, but no injuries were reported after a storage building at a property on East Randolph caught fire Wednesday. According to an Enid Fire Department incident report, personnel responded just before 5:30 Wednesday afternoon to 1124 E. Randolph. Dispatchers were told a tree was on fire and that it had spread to the storage shed.. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from the building’s open door, the eaves on two sides and the back of the building. The interior of the structure was completely involved, as was a large tree and an adjacent fence. Also, some paint burned off a second nearby building, but there appeared to be no other damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

CB)--A Wakita man pleaded guilty to second-degree rape this week in Garfield County District Court and received a 15-year sentence. Enid News and Eagle reports 33 year-old Jeremy Townsend was sentenced to 15 years in Oklahoma Department of Corrections custody, with eight years suspended. Townsend was arrested and charged after having sex with a 15 year-old girl in July 2020 at an Enid residence.  Townsend will receive credit for time served and, upon his release, will have to follow the special rules for sex offenders.

 

A 54-year-old Enid man is facing a child abuse charge after allegedly leaving bruises on a 12 year-old boy after spanking him. Jeffrey Taylor was arrested Sept. 27 at a local residence, charged with the felony count Wednesday and arraigned Thursday. Taylor’s bond was set at $15,000, and he was released on bond Sept. 29 with the condition of having no contact with the victim. He was arraigned Thursday.

LC)--Long Term Care Authority of Enid Area Agency on Aging is scheduling appointments to assist Medicare beneficiaries in completing a review of their coverage and comparisons on plans, premiums and coverage for 2023. Medicare’s open enrollment begins Oct. 15 and ends Dec. 7. This period is the time of year when certain changes can be made to one’s Medicare health plan and prescription drug coverage. Certified Medicare counselors can help people compare, select and enroll in the Part D plan that best meets their individual needs, as Medicare Part D plans usually change every year. During appointments, counselors also will check to see if people qualify for any extra assistance for prescription plans. Appointments can be made by calling LTCA of Enid AAA, located at 202 W. Broadway, at (580) 234-7475. There is no cost for these services. LTCA of Enid AAA will have a table set up during First Friday in downtown Enid this evening to give out information. CL)--A recently released report by doxo,”50 Largest U.S. Cities Household Spending Report 2022”, ranks America's largest cities by the amount spent on household bills. In addition to insights for these cities, doxo also has household spending information for Enid. The average Enid household pays $1,636 a month for the 10 most common household bills. That means the household expenses in Enid, on average, are 18.3% lower than the national average of $2,003, and 0.1% higher than the state average of $1,634. That makes Enid the #26 most expensive city in Oklahoma for household expenses. On average, Enid households spend 39% of their income on household bills.

 

The data, which doxo has for Enid and Oklahoma as well as 4000 cities across the United States, looks at total amount spent on bills per month, and also breaks down bill payments into ten different categories, including mortgage/rent, utilities, auto loans, cable bills, and more.

FF)--Main Street Enid’s First Friday Oktoberfest will be held this evening in downtown Enid. Activities will get started at 6:00 and continue throughout the evening. There will be two Biergartens, live music, a costume contest, food trucks and a number of downtown businesses staying open late. Plus, Enid and area residents can participate in Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Participants can register and receive updates at enidwalk.org. Activities in Enid are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and the walk at 6:00, which begins at the Under Her Wing artwork south of Stride Bank Center. All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer's Association, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
