GB)--A groundbreaking ceremony for a new meat processing plant was held Wednesday in the Garfield County Industrial Park in the 1800 block of N. 54th Street. Chisholm Trail Meats will be a 17.000 square foot facility with the ability to process 50 head of beef a week with some hogs and lamb sprinkled in. Chisholm Trail Meats will do custom processing for any farmer who wants to bring meat to the facility. There also will be private label processing for sale in retail, as well as buying and selling of cattle for T&C Meats, the affiliated retail shop. The plant is scheduled to be up and running in January or February.

FC)--An elderly Enid man was killed Wednesday morning when the pickup he was driving rear-ended an anhydrous ammonia truck at the railroad tracks near 42nd Street and U.S. 412. Enid Police officials said 84 year-old Warren Neuerburg was pronounced dead at the scene, and the state Medical Examiner’s Office was notified. The Enid and Garfield County 911 Center received multiple calls reporting the collision at approximately 11:40. The accident, which remains under investigation, blocked the eastbound lanes of the highway while first responders worked at the scene. The roadway was reopened just before 3:30 p.m.

HW)—A Heat Advisory will be in effect during the afternoon and evening hours today for the entire KGWA listening area. High temperatures up to 105 and Heat Indexes up to 110 degrees can be expected. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned environment when possible, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. According to the forecast, the triple digit heat across the area is expected to continue through the weekend, so be careful.

DT)--It’s going to be a busy and fun weekend in downtown Enid. Activities include Main Street Enid’s First Friday beginning at 6:00 p.m. featuring shopping, dining, vendors, food trucks, and live music throughout downtown. Friday and Saturday Gaslight Theatre is hosting the 8th Annual Fly Film Festival featuring a number of independent films. For more details go to FlyFilmFestival.art. Also, on Saturday and Sunday the 5th Annual Enid Comic Con will be held at Stride Bank Center featuring vendors, cosplay, and special guests

RC)--The right-hand turn lane at the intersection of West Willow and North Oakwood has been temporarily closed for wheel chair ramp repairs. This closure is expected to last approximately three weeks and will allow contractors to complete concrete repairs. Motorists are encouraged to follow posted detour and traffic control signs and to drive with extreme caution in this area during the construction effort.

ST)--The Statewide Sales Tax Holiday weekend is set to take place Friday-Sunday. Enacted by the Oklahoma Legislature in 2007, the Sales Tax Holiday provides consumers with more affordable shopping during the back-to-school season. During the weekend, retailers may not charge tax on items that are tax-exempt during the sales tax holiday weekend. The exempt items include clothing and shoes with a retail price of $100 or less. All other items will be taxed as usual. Sales Tax Holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 5 and ends at midnight on Aug. 7.
