CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners Tuesday evening upheld the city code office’s recent determination that three downtown buildings at 120, 122 and 124 E. Broadway as dilapidated and therefore subject to demolition. The buildings are under common ownership and associated with the adjacent historic Broadway Tower. Commissioners and city officials said Tuesday they do not want to see the buildings demolished, but that something substantial from the buildings’ owner, Johnny Peart who was not at the meeting, needed to be done. Officials said with Tuesday’s vote the 60-day demolition process, which includes getting bids for demolition, on the three buildings will start, though it can be stopped if Peart provides sufficient plans showing forward movement with the properties.

In other business Tuesday, commissioners approved a contract for services between the city and Hope Outreach Ministries to allocate $311,500 in COVID-19 grant funding for the purchase of a multi-family residence in the 700 block of West Broadway designed to provide transitional housing and services to qualified Enid residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Services provided at the residence would be substance abuse recovery, employment support and life skill development for qualified individuals.
