IA)—Three people were injured in a crash early Sunday in Alfalfa County. 18 year-old Evann James Thrasher of Enid was AirEvaced to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in stable condition with trunk, leg and arm injuries. Two passengers in Thrasher’s vehicle, 29 Christian Smith of Jet, and 18 Madison Lynn Weidner of Enid were treated and released for injuries at Integris Bass in Enid. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said Thrasher was eastbound on State Highway 38 around 7:25 Sunday morning, about 4 miles northeast of Jet, when he failed to negotiate a curve and his 2005 Chevy Malibu left the road and struck the ditch. The investigating trooper listed the cause of the crash as Driving Under the Influence of Drugs.

CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners will meet in Study Session and Regular Meeting on Tuesday. During the study session, commissioners will hear a legislative update, updates on street repairs, the Soccer Complex and Enid Joint Recreation Triad, and discuss proposed changes to the Animal Welfare ordinance. During their regular meeting, commissioners will consider approving a new Tax Increment Finance District, and extending a second, related wind energy operations located in the industrial park east of Enid. The commission will also address a number of other business items. The Study Session will begin Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., the Regular Meeting will begin at 6:30. Both will be held in Council Chambers of the City Administration Building on West Garriott and are open to the public.

CF)--A Republican primary candidate forum for Oklahoma state superintendent of public instruction and U.S. House District 3 will be held Tuesday at Stride Bank Center. Talk 100.9 KGWA, Enid News and Eagle, the city of Enid and Enid Public Schools will host the forum. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the forum will begin at 6:00 p.m. The state superintendent forum will begin at 6:00 and feature all four GOP candidates: April Grace, current superintendent of Shawnee Public Schools; John Cox, Peggs Schools superintendent; Ryan Walters, Oklahoma state secretary of education; and William Crozier, of Union City. The District 3 U.S. representative forum will begin at 7:15 p.m. and will feature candidate Wade Burleson, of Enid, and Evan Handy, campaign manager standing in for incumbent U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas, who is not available due to voting duties in Washington, D.C. District 3 candidate Stephen Butler, of Yukon, is unavailable to attend the forum. Talk 100.9 KGWA will broadcast the forum. The format for the forum is that each candidate will give an opening and closing statement. They also will be asked a series of questions from the Enid News & Eagle and Williams Broadcasting representatives. No questions will be taken from the floor during the forum. Primary elections for county, state and federal office are June 28.

BR)--The City of Enid Parks and Recreation department will host the 2022 Cardboard and Duct Tape Boat Race on Saturday, June 25th at Champlin Pool from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The entry fee is $15 per team and includes a hot dog, chips and a drink for each team member. Teams must consist of four people, however, there can only be two people in the boat. All ages are welcomed, but team members 9 and younger must have an adult in the boat with them. Participants 12 and younger must have adult supervision with them. Life vests are encouraged. There will be six awards given at the event:

  • Titanic Award – Goes to the boat who sinks in the most spectacular fashion
  • Spirit Award – Goes to the team who had the most fun
  • Best Design Award – Goes to the team with the most creative boat 
  • Champion Award –Goes to the team that completes the race the fastest
  • Grand Champion Award – Goes to the team that completes the most laps before sinking
  • Team Awesome Award – Goes to the team that has the most unique team name
