PC)—Vance Air Force Base officials say a canopy lost from a training aircraft on Monday has been recovered. A T-38C Talon training aircraft was performing a routine mission over the Ringwood area Monday when the canopy unexpectedly separated from the aircraft. Both pilots on board landed safely at Vance AFB and were unharmed. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

HO)--For one local man, it paid to support our local United Way. Jay Betchan, playing with Farm Credit of Enid, won the $10,000 hole in one challenge at the United Way of Northwest Oklahoma golf tournament Monday at Oakwood Country Club. Jiffy Trip sponsored the challenge.

SC)--Summer Chautauqua gets underway today at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid.  The theme this year is “Surviving the Sixties: Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll”. There will be daily workshops offered by the visiting scholars and nightly performances with the scholars taking the stage as a significant person from the ‘60’s. All workshops and performances are free and open to the public. They take place in Humphrey Heritage Village at Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center. There will be three programs daily at 10:30 a.m., noon and 7:30 p.m. The 10:30 a.m. and noon programs will be workshops, while the 7:30 p.m. performances will feature one scholar in character. JD)--The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County has a display dedicated to Juneteenth this month. The holiday commemorates the day, June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved people in Texas were notified of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, which had been signed into law two years earlier in 1863. The display features facts about Juneteenth, both locally and nationally. At center is the Emancipation Proclamation written and delivered by President Abraham Lincoln. Juneteenth in Enid Celebration was begun by Alfred “Spring” Shannon and his friends, known as the Super Bowl Brothers and has been held for decades.

MC)--The Martial Combat League featuring fighters from Enid and Northwest Oklahoma will return to Stride Bank Center on July 30. The card will have more than 20 fights with fighters partaking in MMA, kickboxing, jiu jitsu and combat jiu jitsu. Tickets go on sale at 10:00 a.m. July 1, and start at $37 for reserved seating. Those attending also will have the option to buy a regular table or VIP table. The VIP table will allow guests to order drinks from a server and an option of food for an extra cost. VIP tables are $800, and normal tables are $600. Those buying a table must buy the entire table and cannot purchase singular seats at a table. DD)--The city of Enid Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Donuts with Dad 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Champion Park gym, 700 N. 10th. All ages and dads are welcome to attend the early Father’s Day event, which will include coloring activities and games. Doughnuts and water will be provided. Father’s Day is celebrated Sunday, June 19.
