SN)--The number of Enid Public Schools students and staff in quarantine or isolation due to COVID-19 dropped by 25 according to the district’s report on Wednesday. As of Wednesday, the district had 282 people in close-contact quarantine or positive-test isolation. The vast majority, 271, were in quarantine after possible exposure to the virus. Two schools, Coolidge and Hoover elementary schools, have one class each in quarantine and doing distance learning.

CV)—Four more virus-related deaths and 1,170 new confirmed coronavirus cases were reported in the state since Wednesday, according to daily numbers released late this morning by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. A total of 88,369 Oklahomans have tested positive for COVID-19 and the total number of deaths increased to 1,035. The health department said 12,851 cases are considered active in the state with 610 Oklahomans currently in the hospital for treatment of COVID-19. So far, 74,483 Oklahomans have recovered from the virus with 1,383 more cases considered recovered since Wednesday.
There have been 1767 positive COVID-19 cases, and 21 deaths in Garfield County. 1648 of those cases and all 21 deaths have been in Enid. Currently, Garfield County is in a "moderate risk" or Orange Level 2 category as defined by the OSDH. In surrounding counties: Kingfisher County has reported 373 cases, Blaine County is at 138 cases, Major 96, Alfalfa 75, and Grant 53.

OF)--Main Street Enid announced that Oktoberfest will happen Friday. It's First Friday from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in Downtown Enid. Over 50 downtown locations are scheduled to participate with dining, shopping, and be entertainment. There will be beer, food, a costume contest, and more. Oktoberfest will be held on the 200 block of W. Randolph and 100 block on N. Independence. Everyone is encouraged to wear masks and keep proper social distancing.

FS)--Saturday will be a day full of music and fun with the annual Fling at the Springs music festival. It will be from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Government Springs Park North. There will be new artists every hour, and it's free. The festival will conclude with a fireworks show at 9:00 p.m.

SP)--City of Enid Parks and Recreation officials say the Hoover and Champion splash pads will close this weekend for the 2020 season. Sunday will be the last day the pads are open this year. The hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. The Hoover Splash Pad is located at 3000 West Oklahoma, and the Champion Splash Pad is located at 700 North 10th Street. YW)--City of Enid Solid Waste Services officials announced the transition of green yard waste polycarts to its Fall and Winter schedule. Beginning Monday, yard waste will be picked up on the same day as household trash. As a reminder, place the green polycarts container at least ten feet of clearance from other containers, parked vehicles, street lampposts, trees, mailboxes and other obstructions at the curb no later than 7:30 a.m. with your household trash.
The City-issued green polycarts are used only for yard waste such as leaves, twigs, and grass. The green containers will not be emptied if they contain household trash, due to yard waste being placed in a different field for composting.
The green polycarts may be purchased for a one-time fee of $60.00. The $60.00 fee will be charged to a resident’s water bill after they receive the container. Those who wish to obtain a polycart or an additional polycart, can contact Solid Waste Services at (580) 616-7300. WC)--The City of Enid will move “Operation Cleanup” to ward three beginning Monday. Grapple trucks will run each Monday throughout the month of October to pick up bulk trash, brush, and debris as part of the neighborhood beautification campaign within Ward 3. This cleanup project will be a free service to all residents within Ward 3.
Guidelines for “Operation Cleanup”
- Bulk trash and brush/debris must be placed 10 feet within the curb in the front of the residence.
- Keep trash and brush/debris piles 10 feet away from objects (e.g. mailboxes, water meters, sprinklers, cars, basketball goals).
- Keep trash and brush/debris in separate piles, as well as 10 feet away from each other.
- Do not place trash under any low hanging trees or power lines.
The City currently plans to continue “Operation Cleanup” into Ward 4 later this year and Ward 5 in February, weather permitting. Upcoming ward cleanup projects will be announced in the future. As a reminder, residents can continue to call for bulk trash pickup in other wards during this time with a normal charge. SO)--Local ministries and nonprofits are seeking participants for a resource fair and a “sleep-out” event Oct. 10 in observation of World Homeless Day. Enid Faith Ways and Holy Cross Enid have scheduled a resource fair and meal from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Oct. 10 in the parking lot of First United Methodist Church, in the 500 block of West Randolph. After the resource fair and meal, participants will begin Enid's first "Sleep Out" to mimic one night on the street in Enid without shelter. Any church, nonprofit or organization that has resources to assist the unsheltered population is invited to participate in the resource fair. Sponsorship support has been offered from CDSA, First United Methodist Church, Salvation Army of Enid and Enid First Presbyterian Church. Salvation Army of Enid will serve free meals, provided by Enid Faith Ways, Holy Cross, CDSA and First Presbyterian. Sponsorships still are available for the event to help cover the cost of the meal.
