DD)---Two Enid men are facing multiple charges after authorities said they were found with more than a pound of methamphetamine following a traffic stop Sept. 7 in Waukomis. 28 year-old Andrew Jack Preston and 35 year-old Shannon Lamar Medlock each face felony charges of aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and resisting an officer. They were charged Monday in Garfield County District Court. Both men reportedly fled on foot before being taken into custody following the traffic stop on northbound US 81. In addition to the methamphetamine, authorities reportedly found a loaded 9 mm handgun in the vehicle.

CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners Wednesday afternoon unanimously approved a letter of commitment for Icon Cinemas to build a movie theater complex in Enid. The complex will be built on South Garland, south of Walmart and will feature nine screens. The complex will also feature duckpin bowling, virtual reality games, an arcade, concession stands and a bar. The total project cost is just over $23 million. The city of Enid’s investment is $2 million cash as a construction incentive, as well as a $1.8 million loan that will be paid back over 10 years at an interest rate of 5%. The close of the deal is expected in December or January. The project is expected to take about 14 months to complete.

CK)--United Way of Northwest Oklahoma will host a free Family Fun Campaign Kickoff Rally on this evening beginning at 6:00 weather permitting to raise awareness and support for its 14 nonprofit partner agencies. United Way of Northwest Oklahoma Campaign Chairs, David and Jennifer Lawrence said the event at David Allen Memorial Ballpark will include games, inflatables, food and fun. In addition to all the activities, the 14 United Way Partner agencies will be there sharing information and providing giveaways, popcorn, games and much more. All proceeds go to benefit United Way of Northwest Oklahoma and its 14 Partner Agencies. CS)--A number of activities will be held as part of the annual Cherokee Strip Days, presented by the Greater Enid Chamber of Commerce. Enid will be celebrating its 130th birthday. On Friday from 11:00 am-1:00pm the Lunch Rush will offer up an Indian Taco & Drink for $10 while supplies last on the courthouse lawn. On Saturday downtown, the Cherokee Strip Festival featuring food and vendor booths will be open on courthouse lawn 9:00am-1:30pm. Then at 10:30 am the Cherokee Strip Parade, featuring Rick Simpson as Grand Marshal, will make its way around the downtown square. There will be a number of other activities including a parking lot concert Friday night at Stride Bank Center, induction of two new members to the Enid Walk of Fame Saturday morning 9:00 in the Stride Center Grand Ballroom, and the16th annual Great Land Run at the Chisholm Expo Center Saturday morning at 7:30.  Plan on being part of the fun this weekend.

SP)--Enid’s “Gaslight Shakespeare in the Park” celebrates its 30th season this month as it presents Hamlet at 8:00 p.m. Sept. 15, 16, and 17 at Government Springs Park in Enid. The event is Oklahoma’s longest running free Shakespeare in Park and is sponsored this year by Park Avenue Thrift and Security National Bank. Audiences are encouraged to bring picnic blankets, camp chairs, coolers, and snacks and enjoy a night of free entertainment under the stars. Special VIP picnic suites are also available for purchase. These include charcuterie by Bite Box Enid, priority seating, and other treats. Finally, a limited edition 30th anniversary Shakespeare in the Park t-shirt will also be available for purchase on the Gaslight’s website. SP)--The first Enid High School varsity football home game is this Friday at D. Bruce Selby Stadium and Enid Public Schools wishes to remind the community of protocols in place so everyone can enjoy the game in safety. Please be advised of the following rules and regulations that have been implemented over the years to ensure the safety of students, parents, and community members:

 

  • North and south entrances to D. Bruce Selby Stadium will open to the public at 5:45 p.m.
  • Once a fan leaves, they are not allowed to re-enter without approval ahead of time.
  • Elementary students must enter and leave with a parent/guardian.
  • Middle school students must stay in the northwest portion of the stadium.
  • No loitering in the tunnels, ramps, or bathrooms in the stadium. The turfed area behind the west endzone if off limits to students and fans.
  • EHS Band will play in the southeast corner of the stadium.
  • EHS student section will be in the traditional northeast section of the stadium.
  • Parking is available at EHS and on the west and south side of the stadium. Handicap parking is available on the north side of the stadium and two handicap spaces have been added to the south side of the stadium. Please do not park on the street on the north side of the stadium as it will disrupt the flow of traffic.

 

There will be EPS, EHS and middle school administrators present at all times during the game as well as a full police presence, including EPS Campus Police. 

Tickets to be admitted into the game are $12 for adults and $8 for students/children. Tickets purchased on the GoFan app are $9 for adults and $5 for students/children, plus fees. Employees and students have free admission with EPS ID card present. EPS Athletics also take retiree, OSSAA, OCA, GoFan All Sports passes and military identification for free admission. Kickoff is at 7:05 p.m.

WF)-- The Enid community is invited to attend the award ceremony to honor the 2023 Walk of Fame honorees Dr. Jerry Blankenship and posthumous veteran and educator Jewel William ‘J.W.’ Ridge. The 2023 Enid Walk of Fame (WOF) ceremony is scheduled for Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in Grand Ballroom C at the Stride Bank Center. Each year, this annual award is presented by the Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners during the Cherokee Strip Days celebration commemorating Enid's early pioneer spirit and heritage. Many downtown streets will be barricaded for the Cherokee Strip Parade. Walk of Fame Ceremony attendees can access the Stride Bank Center by way of the preferred barrier at the W. Owen K. Garriott and Independence intersection or by any other police-assisted barricades. LR)--More than 400 individual runners are expected to participate in the 2023 Great Land Run at the Chisholm Trail Expo Pavilion on Saturday, Sept. 16. The event will raise funds for the Great Land Run Education Foundation, which was founded in 2008 with the goal to support Chisholm and Enid public school districts. Presented by Triangle Insurance and Wymer Brownlee Wealth Strategies, the 16th annual Great Land Run race will be a fun-filled, rain or shine event featuring a USATF certified 5K and 10K course with a 7:30 a.m. start, and a half-marathon course starting at 6:30 a.m. All sponsor donations and net proceeds from the race are divided according to school district enrollment and distributed at the following year’s event. The Great Land Run Education Foundation has donated more than $500,000 to support local public education since its establishment. Race day registration begins at 5:30 a.m. Interested participants can register online at greatlandrun.com. Prices increase after Sept. 13, 2023. ST)--Advance Soccer Complex and Enid Soccer Club will host the "Northern Frontier League" which is part of the US Youth National League this Saturday and Sunday. Approximately 40 teams from Oklahoma and Arkansas will be competing. Concessions will be open and there is no charge to attend. Saturday's start times are 10am, 12pm, 4pm and 6pm. Sunday's matches are scheduled for 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
