CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners will meet this evening. During its Regular Meeting, the commission will hold a public hearing to receive comments from the public regarding cable provider Cebridge Acquisitions, L. P., previously known as Suddenlink, seeking a franchise agreement extension. Following public comment, an ordinance will be considered to grant Cebridge Acquisitions a non-exclusive permit to construct and operate a cable system providing cable services within the city of Enid. An appropriation of $100,000 from the city’s general fund will be considered to pay for the beautification efforts meant to elevate the appearance of the U.S. 81 and U.S. 412 corridors, from Randolph to Chestnut, and Cleveland to Garland, respectively. In other business commissioners will address a number of or routine business items, the meet in Executive Session to discuss the breach of contract claim against the Criminal Justice Authority of Garfield County and discuss designating city representatives for the upcoming mediation scheduled August 22. During the Study Session, commissioners are scheduled to hear updates on the Kaw Lake Water Pipeline project, Suiddenlink’s intent to seek a franchise renewal to provide cable services in Enid, and discuss other items. The Study Session will be held at 5:00, followed by the Regular Meeting at 6:30. Both will be held in Council Chambers of the City Administration Building and be open to the public.

MG)--A competency hearing for 52 year-old Michael Scott Geiger scheduled for Monday morning was put on hold after the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals issued a stay in his case. According to Enid News and Eagle, the Garfield County District Attorney's Office received the stay after hours on Friday. Geiger is facing charges of first-degree murder, first-degree rape and kidnapping in the death of 2-year-old Caliyah Guyton at an Enid hotel on April 28, 2022. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. A report from the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health filed in July found Geiger incompetent to stand trial. Geiger waived his rights to a jury trial during a hearing Aug. 4. A status hearing is scheduled for Sept. 13 in Garfield County District Court.

OM)--The Oscar Mayer Frankmobile, previously known as the Wienermobile, will be in Enid this week. According to Frankmobile driver Sam Dlott, said he and co-pilot, Mary Clare, will be distributing “Frankmobilia,” including the iconic Frank Whistles, and playing games for a chance to win free coupons for all-beef franks. While in town the entire week, scheduled events are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Vance Air Force Base Commissary; 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Aug. 19 at Jumbo Foods West, on W. Willow; and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Aug. 20, at Jumbo Foods East, on S. 30th.
