SW)--Heavy to severe thunderstorms moved through the area early this morning with strong winds, small hail and heavy rain. The storms resulted in wind damage to trees as well as a few structures. Rainfall locally ranged from just over a half inch up to an inch-plus. OG&E reported power outages that affected hundreds of customers in Garfield County and up to 10,000 customers statewide at the peak. Power is expected to be restored to most locations by late this morning. Locally today as we make it into the afternoon, skies will be partly sunny with a high around 88.

FM)--A man charged with the sexual assault and murder of a little girl last year at an Enid hotel waived his right to a jury trial at a recent hearing in Garfield County District Court. 52 year-old Michael Scott Geiger is facing felony charges of first-degree murder, first-degree rape and kidnapping in the death of 2-year-old Caliyah Guyton in April of 2022. A competency hearing for Geiger has been scheduled. Geiger, who had been held at Oklahoma Forensic Center in Vinita, now is being held in Garfield County Detention Facility.

SM)--An Enid man was sentenced to prison Monday after pleading guilty to one count of child sexual abuse. 41 year-old Jeremiah Lee Pence was sentenced to 12½ years in prison. He was arrested and charged in 2021 after authorities were told he allegedly was having sex with a 16-year-old girl. Pence must serve 85% of the sentence with Oklahoma Department of Corrections before he is considered for parole. He also will have post-imprisonment supervision, special rules for sex offenders and must register as a sex offender for life.

ES)--Enid Public Schools students and their families are invited to kick off the school year next Monday at Meet the Teacher events across the district. Students and their families will be given the opportunity to meet their teachers, talk with their principals and tour their buildings. Parents can sign-up to volunteer, and they will receive valuable information about the upcoming school year.  Many schools will host booths from their respective PTA organizations, as well as information on community organizations. The schedule includes elementary schools from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and middle and high school sites from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. EPS classes begin Wednesday, August 16.
