ES)--Enid Public Schools students and their families are invited to kick off the school year next Monday at Meet the Teacher events across the district. Students and their families will be given the opportunity to meet their teachers, talk with their principals and tour their buildings. Parents can sign-up to volunteer, and they will receive valuable information about the upcoming school year. Many schools will host booths from their respective PTA organizations, as well as information on community organizations. The schedule includes elementary schools from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and middle and high school sites from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. EPS classes begin Wednesday, August 16. IC)--Five Enid people were admitted to OU Medical Center after a one-vehicle wreck Saturday, on State Highway 74, 3.5 miles south of Covington. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said 35 year-old Myra Vega Hernandez was driving a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Oklahoma 74 around 9:35 Saturday night when she fell asleep. The vehicle departed the roadway and rolled two times coming to rest on its wheels. One of her passengers, 19 year-old Yolanda Rivera was ejected an unknown distance and admitted in critical condition with internal trunk injuries. Three children, ages 1, 8 and 11, were admitted in stable condition for their injuries. Hernandez was admitted in stable condition with head and trunk injuries, while another passenger, 42 year-old Rodrigo Miranda Perez refused treatment at the hospital. The condition of the driver was listed on the report as sleepy, and the cause of the collision was inattentive driving. Seatbelts were equipped and in use by Rodrigo Perez and two of the children. The third child was secured in child restraint.

LI)--US Congressman Frank Lucas was hospitalized after being injured Friday while working on his ranch. He was admitted to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. According to official communication from his office Lucas’ injuries are non-life threatening. He was injured at his ranch in Roger Mills County. Lucas, who was in Enid last week and visited the KGWA studios, represents Oklahoma’s District 3 in the U.S. House of Representatives. His area covers much of western, northwestern and north central Oklahoma.

MS)--Authorities have arrested a 38-year-old man in the death of a woman found in a Kingfisher motel on Thursday. According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Joseph Hayslip was arrested and booked into Kingfisher County Detention Center on a first-degree murder complaint. Kingfisher Police Department requested OSBI assistance after the woman’s body was found around 4:15 Thursday afternoon in Cattlemen’s Inn Motel in Kingfisher. According to OSBI the woman had suffered injuries consistent with a homicide. According to the report, officers learned she had been living with Hayslip. He was located and interviewed by OSBI special agents. Based on evidence and information obtained, Hayslip was arrested.
