TH)--The annual Oklahoma sales tax holiday falls on the first weekend in August this year, just in time for back-to-school shopping. Tax-free weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday and ends at midnight on Sunday. During that time frame, certain clothing and shoe purchases and other qualified items are exempt from state, city, county and local sales taxes. Oklahoma retailers may not collect state or local sales or use tax on most shoes or clothing sold for less than $100, according to Oklahoma Tax Commission. Retailers are required to participate and may not charge sales tax on approved items that weekend. Also, qualifying items bought online are exempt from sales tax, as long as they are ordered and paid for during the exemption period. For information and answers to questions on the sales tax holiday, as well as a listing of sales tax exempt items, go online to the Oklahoma Tax Commission website at https://oklahoma.gov/tax.html and search for “sales tax holiday.”
