HF)--Two Northwest Oklahomans are among the eight people in the 96th class of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. Dr. Barry Pollard, of Waukomis, and Dr. Judith James, of Pond Creek, were part of the class. Pollard is a neurosurgeon and farmer and cattleman. He has served a number of medical, state and community boards. James is an internationally recognized physician and scientist. She is executive vice president of Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, is a fifth-generation Oklahoman and has dedicated her career to understanding autoimmune diseases and improving the health of Oklahomans. The 2023 honorees were named Thursday during a luncheon at Gaylord-Pickens Museum in Oklahoma City. The Oklahoma Hall of Fame was founded in 1927.

WS)--The NJCAA Division II College Baseball World Series is set to begin again Saturday, at David Allen Memorial Ballpark. The 10-team bracket and seeding was released Tuesday. Opening Ceremonies will be Friday night, with the first game Saturday morning. Next year, the tournament will expand to 12 teams, with two at-large teams.

MM)— Enid’s Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park, along with the City of Enid present Above and Beyond, a weekend tribute to honor our veterans. The events are Friday–Monday at the Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park at Woodring Regional Airport.  Friday at 7:00 pm veterans, from all eras of war, will be leading the opening ceremonies of the Jr. College World Series at the David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

 

*On Saturday, at 11:00 am is the first Medal of Honor Ride of Valor honoring three NW Oklahoma recipients. The ride will end at the veterans park with food, entertainment and giveaways. Registration begins at 10 am. A large group of Tulsa motorcyclist will be arriving at the Vietnam Memorial Wall for their annual ride at noon. Their service will include a wreath laying service at the Vietnam Wall, a DoD Vietnam Veterans Pinning Ceremony, and entertainment provided by members of Dually Noted.

 

*Monday at 10:00 am is the annual City of Enid Memorial Day Ceremonies honoring the fallen of Oklahoma. Above and Beyond Memorial Day Ceremony will also honor two fallen families this year including Darren Collins, USN who died while on active duty and Sgt. Robert Swartz, USAR and deputy sheriff who was killed while serving an eviction notice in OKC. Maj Gen Doug Dollar, USA retired, will be the key note speaker along with Col Matthew Astroth, Commander Vance Air Force Base, who will dedicate the new name additions to the living walls and conduct the dedication of the Woodring Historical Mural.  The event begins at 10:00 am on Monday morning. Parking assistance will be provided by the Civil Air Patrol.

CP)--Champlin Pool, 400 W. Cherokee, will open for the summer on Tuesday according to the city of Enid. Hours for the pool will be 11:00 a.m. to noon for lap swim and noon to 6:00 p.m. for open swim Tuesday through Saturday and 6:00-7:00 p.m. for aqua cardio Tuesday through Thursday. Group swimming lessons will be available Tuesday, June 6, through July 21. The pool entrance fee is $3 per individual per day for lap and open swim, aqua cardio and swimming lessons. Summer pool passes are available for open swim and cost $30 for first family member and $20 for each additional family member. Private pool parties are scheduled 7-9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Individuals interested in swimming lessons or private pool parties, must register at (580) 616-7313.
