EH)--The commencement ceremony for Enid High School’s Class of 2023 will be at 7:30 tonight at D. Bruce Selby Stadium. There will be several student speakers with 46 students being honored with valedictorian commendations and diplomas presented to all graduates. Additionally, EHS will celebrate 119 honor graduates. General Parking will be available in the south parking lot of the stadium as well as newly paved parking on the west side of the stadium. The EHS parking lots, located on the school campus, also will be open. Those who use the south stadium parking lot are asked to enter the south gates and follow the east sidewalk to the north-side seating. Limited handicap parking will be located on the north side of the stadium. Once the spaces are full, vehicles with passengers who require handicap parking will be allowed to drive to the entrance of the stadium to drop-off passengers. Guests are welcome to sit on both the north and south sides of the stadium. Enid Public Schools appreciates the support of community members, parents and fellow students as we honor the Class of 2023. We ask that those attending please not bring air horns or other items of distraction during this special event. Your cooperation is appreciated.

 

In the event of inclement weather, the following dates and times are reserved as alternative times for the ceremony:

 

*Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at D. Bruce Selby Stadium

 

*Saturday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. at Chisholm Trail Expo Center

 

The district will communicate with families and the community at least two and half hours in advance of the designated start time, in any changes are necessary.

TL)--Enid native and former Oklahoma Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb has been named as 22nd president of University of Central Oklahoma. After a national search, the Board of Regents for the Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) named Lamb to the post earlier this week. Lamb will assume the presidency July 1, 2023, replacing Andrew K. Benton, who was named interim president in January. Lamb earned a law degree from Oklahoma City University. After beginning his career as an assistant to Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating, Lamb entered the U.S. Secret Service, serving from 1998 to 2002. While with the Secret Service, Lamb was appointed to the Joint Terrorism Task Force, was an investigative lead for the 9/11 investigations and served on details protecting President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton. Following his tenure with the Secret Service, Lamb represented U.S. Sen. Don Nickles as an agriculture field representative throughout Northwest Oklahoma, after which he entered private law practice. While practicing law, Lamb was elected to the state Senate, representing much of Edmond. Lamb served as a state senator from 2005 to 2011. Following his service in the state Senate, Lamb was elected lieutenant governor, a position he held from 2011 to 2019.

KL)--A U.S. District Judge ruled Thursday that the plaintiff in a lawsuit alleging he was abused and hazed while a member of the Kingfisher High School football team must be identified in order to continue his legal action. The plaintiff, previously identified only as John Doe 1, has been named as Mason Mecklenburg. He was a member of the team from 2017 until graduating in 2021. He filed a lawsuit July 29, 2021, in Kingfisher County District Court against Kingfisher Public Schools, head football coach Jeff Myers and former assistant coaches Micah Nall, Derek Patterson and Blake Eaton. The case since has been moved to federal jurisdiction in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. The suit alleges a culture of hazing, bullying, harassment and sexual abuse within the high school football program. The trial is scheduled to begin on Sept. 20.

RW)--A portion of West Garriott will be closed Monday through June 5 while the city installs a new traffic signal light. According to the city of Enid, the closure will be at the intersection of Garriott and Independence. It will affect the eastbound outside lane of Garriott from Washington to just east of Independence. This timeline is weather permitting. City officials urge motorists to follow posted traffic control signs and to drive with caution.
