MC)--Two people were injured in a motorcycle accident Tuesday on East Maine. Enid Police said the accident happened around 4:55 afternoon in the 2500 block of East Maine. According to a police spokesperson, a 27-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman riding on the motorcycle were traveling westbound on Maine attempting to take the curve around Northern Oklahoma College when they went off the roadway to the right and wrecked. Both were transported by helicopter to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City with undetermined injuries. According to the report, excessive speed appears to be a contributing factor, but the wreck remains under investigation.

EY)—Enid High School’s 108th annual May Fete celebration, the annual rite of passage into adulthood, will be this evening at 6:00 p.m. The event is open to the public. The celebration takes place at Government Springs Park and begins with the introduction of the May Court. The court and senior class then promenade around the lake to the gazebo to be seated. After everyone is seated, the queen is crowned, followed by entertainment for the queen. The winding of the Maypole follows. This year’s May Fete Queen Saherena Williams and May Herald Tyler Cholerton will lead the seniors’ traditional walk around the park’s lake.

 

The Tri-State Music Festival will be today through Friday with the judged performances at venues across Enid. The festival’s Grand Concert, scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday in the Enid High School auditorium. Admission for the grand concert is $3 for adults, $2 for children and $10 for a family. The Marching Band contest will be held in the fall on the first Saturday of October.

TC)--The City of Enid Engineering Department announced work is being performed at the Government Springs South Park Tennis Courts beginning this week. This work is expected to last approximately four weeks to resurface the courts. People are encouraged to follow posted signs and clear this area during the resurfacing process until complete.

TR)--The public is invited to attend a come-and- go “Thank-You Reception” honoring outgoing Mayor George Pankonin and Ward 1 City Commissioner Jerry Allen to be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Stride Bank Center’s Convention Hall.

DP)--Enid will observe the National Day of Prayer on Thursday at the Gazebo on the north lawn of the Courthouse. The event will be from 11:55 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Several faith and community leaders will participate in the event. The prayer gathering will represent numerous churches and ministries in Enid and is not affiliated with any one denomination. All people are encouraged to attend and pray. The National Day of Prayer has roots dating back to 1775, when the Continental Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation.

WM)--YWCA Enid on Friday will host its annual event that helps raise awareness of and shows support to survivors and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, put on in partnership with title sponsor Edward Jones Enid Advisors and Main Street Enid, will kick off with day-of registration, shoe-fittings and check-in at 6:00 p.m. during First Friday at downtown Enid’s Gazebo. YWCA Enid will provide men-sized high heels to all adult walkers at check-in. The awareness walk itself will begin at 6:30 p.m., following brief remarks and an announcement by Courtney Dennis, executive director of YWCA Enid. Registration is open and can be done online at https://ywcaenid.com or YWCA Enid’s front desk, located at 525 S. Quincy. The cost for men ages 18 years old and older is $50, and a team of eight men can register at a discounted cost of $350. MM)--A mural depicting the history at Enid Woodring Regional Airport being painted by Tox Murlillo is expected to be completed by Memorial Day, but donations are needed in order to pay for the completion. Elaine Johns, executive director of Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park, told Enid News and Eagle the total cost of the mural is around $30,000. A grant to match 50% of the cost has been received, but she said more money is needed for the mural and lighting. Johns said another $15,000 to $ 20,000 is needed for the project including sidewalks, uplighting and signage. Memorial Day, which falls on May 29 this year, will feature several events on that day and the weekend before at Enid Woodring Regional Airport. Elaine Johns, executive director of Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park said there will be a Medal of Honor ride for cars, trucks and motorcycles that will start at Woodring that Saturday and make stops at numerous veteran gravesites. On Memorial Day, Maj. Gen. Doug Dollar will be the keynote speaker, and a free meal for veterans and their families will be held at the conclusion of events. A representative from Vance Air Force Base will be present to dedicate the mural. During the NJCAA Division II World Series held at David Allen Memorial Ballpark, Memorial Day will serve as Military Night, in which veterans from all eras of war will be in attendance and honored.
