FA)--An Omega woman was killed Saturday afternoon when her vehicle ran off the road in Kingfisher County. 38 year-old Karina Castro was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said Castro was northbound in a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox on a county road around 3:10 Saturday afternoon, about 4 miles west and 5.2 miles south of Omega, when she left the roadway for an unknown reason, and rolled two or three times. Castro was the only occupant and was not wearing a seatbelt. The condition of Castro is listed as normal on the report, and the cause of the collision is listed as under investigation.

SB)--The Enid Public Schools Board of Education will discuss and possibly take action on hiring a principal for Emerson Middle School during its monthly meeting this evening. Also on the agenda will be the oath of office for reelected board members, reorganization of the board and election of officers. The board will recognize Enid High School speech and debate students who qualified for state, as well as recipients of scholarships and Academic All-Staters. The meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. in the EPS administration building, 500 S. Independence, and is open to the public.

CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday. According to the agenda, Commissioners will recognize a couple of people and organizations, as well as present several proclamations. In other business, the commission will consider approval of a couple of ordinance amendments, and consider appropriating funding for the Kaw Lake Water Pipeline project. During their Study Session, commissioners will hear legislative, VDA and current construction project updates. Tuesday’s study session will begin at 5:00 p.m., with the regular meeting at 6:30. Both meetings will be held in Council Chambers of the City Administration Building on West Garriott and will be open to the public.

GT)--Leadership Greater Enid Class XXXII (32) will host this year’s LGE benefit golf tournament Friday at Meadowlake Golf course with both morning and afternoon flights. The event has a goal of raising $52,000 and has selected Main Street Enid to be this year’s beneficiary. The money would be used for an audio system for Main Street Enid, which hosts events throughout the year such as First Fridays and Enid Lights Up the Plains. This annual golf event is made possible through the support and donations from local businesses. The class still is looking for sponsorships and participating teams. Anyone interested in sponsoring or reserving a spot in the tournament may contact LGE or Main Street Enid.

 

Also throughout the month of April, Enid Axe will host a raffle for a chance to win a one day duck hunt at Island Ranch. A $10 entry gives you three throws for a chance to win more tickets to add to the raffle. You also can enter the raffle by purchasing the daily specials from Sombria Chocolate Company or Kristi’s Kitchen. After the tournament, the LGE class will continue celebrating and raising funds at a special Downtown Block Party from 6-10 p.m. at Enid Axe, 100 block of N. Independence, with live DJ, food trucks, a silent auction and more.

PV)--Pet owners can get their animals vaccinated and licensed for $10 next month during the city of Enid’s annual pet clinic. The citywide rabies shot clinic will be held noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at Chisholm Trail Expo Center on the Garfield County Fairgrounds. Open to the public, including pet owners outside of Enid, the shot clinic will include pet vaccinations for rabies and issuance of pet licenses as required by local ordinance. A city pet license is required for every dog, cat or potbellied pig over the age of 6 months old. Registering animals allows for identification of their owners, should the pet become lost or stolen. For animals that already have been vaccinated, pet owners can bring their rabies vaccination certificate, and a city pet license will be issued for $2. City pet licenses are valid from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 in the year it is purchased. Payments can be made in cash or by personal check. No credit or debit cards will be taken at the event.
