VC)--A service was held on Wednesday at Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park in Enid to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the date of the dissolution of the U.S. command in Vietnam. It also was the 50th anniversary of the day North Vietnam released the last of its acknowledged prisoners of war. The Vietnam War resulted in more than 58,000 Americans killed, including 990 from Oklahoma. Wednesday’s ceremony included several speakers including retired Air Force Lt. Col. Bill Schwertferger, who was one of 591 prisoners of war who was released on March 29, 1973. Also included in the ceremony were the Enid High School Air Force JROTC, which presented the colors, as well as the laying of wreaths by the Wall of Honor by Vietnam Veterans Post 940 and Blue Star Mothers Chapter 11.

SG)--A Drummond High School student will be competing this weekend in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments' Individual Player National Championship Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois. Talon McClurg, a junior, is part of the 200-player field that will compete Sunday. McClurg is part of the Drummond Academic Bowl team that was state runner-up this year in Class 2A. McClurg is co-president of the Drummond Academic Team and president of the Drummond National Honor Society chapter this year. Twenty-six states and South Korea will be represented in the fifth championship of its kind. Tournament results will be updated throughout the day at http://www.naqt.com/go/stats/13405 so everyone can follow along and see how students fare.

EV)--In-person absentee voting, more commonly referred to as early voting in Oklahoma, for the Tuesday, April 4 board of education and statutory municipal general election will be today and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Voters can go to Garfield County Election Board, 903 Failing, to cast their ballots. No excuse is needed to vote early by in-person absentee ballot, but individuals must vote in the county in which they are registered. Voters in several Garfield County towns will have something to vote on, including City of Enid, Ward 2 Commissioner runoff between Derwin L. Norwood Jr. and Doug Boyle. There will also be races for voters in the Town of Kremlin, Town of Lahoma, Town of North Enid, and Town of Waukomis. There will also be school bond issues or board races for Waukomis, Pioneer-Pleasant Vale, Pond Creek-Hunter, Mulhall-Orlando and Cimarron. Polls will be open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and voters will have to go to their designated polling places. S)--Dr. Cheryl Evans, Northern Oklahoma College president emeritus, will speak at NOC’s Women’s History Month celebration today in the Gantz Center at NOC Enid. Evans became the 13th president of NOC in 2011 as the first female president in the school’s history. Prior to that, she served 17 years at Northwestern Oklahoma State University as a professor and in administration including seven years, leading the university’s Enid campus. Thursday’s program will begin at 11:45 a.m. and is open to the public. It is sponsored by the Northern Oklahoma College Diversity Committee.

CS)--Oklahoma’s largest indoor Corvette Show returns to Enid this Saturday. Presented by Corvettes of Enid, the 31st annual Corvette Expo will be 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Chisholm Trail Coliseum. More than 100 Corvettes are expected to be on display. Organizers said the event brings a lot of people to Enid with more than 50% of the people are coming from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Texas. The Corvette Expo is a fundraiser, with proceeds benefitting local charities such as Garfield County Child Advocacy Council, Youth & Family Services of North Central Oklahoma, Leonardo’s Children’s Museum and more. Around $50,000 has been given to charities in the last five years. General admission into the Corvette Expo is $5 for adults and $1 for children 12 years old and younger. Anybody wanting to register their vehicles into the Corvette Expo can do so from noon to 9:00 p.m. on Friday and from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Saturday ahead of the event. The entry fee is $40 per vehicle for Corvettes of Enid non-members and $30 per vehicle for members of the club.
