CE)--Chisholm Elementary School on Monday initiated fire procedures, calling fire departments and evacuating students after smoke was detected in the west wing of the building. Enid Fire Department responded to the report of smoke just before 9:00 Monday morning. Chisholm Superintendent Dudley Darrow said students followed fire drill procedures and were evacuated into the school parking lot on the east side of the school. A head count was conducted and then the students were moved into the gym. The fire department determined fairly quickly that it was a wire related to the air system that burned, causing the smoke. Shortly after, the OK was given to allow students to return to their classrooms.

SB)--The Enid Public Schools Board of Education Monday night heard from and approved the new auditors for the district. Jay States and Bill Buss, of S&B CPA’s & Associates were formally with Pat Carroll, who has been the auditor for the Enid school district for more than 50 years. The board went over the explanation of a lengthy audit with Carroll before it was approved as a good audit. In other business, the board also reminded members of the community that the survey for the superintendent search will close March 31. Superintendent Dr. Darrell Floyd announced last month he will retire June 30 after nine years at the EPS helm. The board then hired Oklahoma State School Boards Association to help with the search for his replacement. OSSBA will work with the EPS board to establish a search timeline, do marketing and advertising, gather essential qualifications and characteristics, post and manage applications, provide interview guidelines and provide reference check guidelines. As part of the process, a survey, available at enidpublicschools.org/superintendentsurvey, seeks public input on the qualities and characteristics they would like to see in the next superintendent. After the survey closes, OSSBA will continue with public input by inviting members of the community, along with support personnel and teachers, to discuss the surveys. Meetings will be held at various times on April 3.

YE)--Enid Public Schools will welcome its newest students next week during four-year-old enrollment for the 2023-24 school year. Families must pick up informational packets at their student’s home school sites March 28-30. Enrollment will open on April 3 and will be completed exclusively online. Guardians enrolling their children as EPS students for the first time will need the children’s immunization record, birth certificate (no hospital footprints, please) and verification of address, such as a utility bill. Families who do not have access to a device to complete enrollment online are encouraged to contact their student’s school. Home school sites can be found by visiting enidpublicschools.org, clicking “Menu”, and clicking “Find Your School” under the enrollment tab. All EPS four-year-old programs focus on the social, academic, physical and emotional needs of children. Students must be four-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2023.

Beginning May 8, full-day kindergarten enrollment for students who are new to EPS will be open online. Parents should enroll their student online at enidpublicschools.org/enrollment or visit the Welcome Center located in the Administrative Services Center, 500 S. Independence. Online enrollment will be open May 8. Students must be five-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2023 to enroll. If a child is currently an EPS pre-kindergarten student, it is not necessary to attend kindergarten enrollment because their school will send out pre-enrollment for kindergarten via call, text or email.
