SF)--A fire that destroyed a business just west of Enid in the early morning hours Monday remains under investigation. Lahoma Fire Department Chief Tyler Wedel told Enid News and Eagle fire department units from Drummond, Enid, Hillsdale, Lahoma and Waukomis responded to C&C Pipeline Services, 613 S. Boomer, around 3:15 Monday morning after a fire was reported at the business. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the building, which had offices inside, was fully engulfed in flames. The fire was put out around 6:30 a.m. and that personnel remained on-scene until about 9:00 a.m. No injuries were reported, but the building was a total loss. The Office of the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office was called out to the scene to investigate. Arson is suspected in the fire, but the investigation is ongoing. Garfield County Sheriff Cory Rink said anybody with information regarding the fire is asked to call GCSO at (580) 237-0244.

CP)--US 81 four miles south of Dover was shut down for about a half hour last night as authorities conducted a felony stop involving a reportedly suicidal individual armed with a pistol. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials say the highway was closed from just before 9:30 to just before 10:00 Monday night. Authorities said one person was detained and transported to Kingfisher Mercy Hospital for evaluation.

CP)--The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has arrested an assistant district attorney on child pornography charges. On Sept. 1, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children forwarded fourteen cybertips, linked to a single suspect, to the OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children unit. The investigation identified Kevin Etherington as a possible suspect related to the tips. Etherington is the First Assistant District Attorney for Payne and Logan Counties. Earlier Monday, OSBI Agents executed a search warrant at Etherington’s Stillwater residence. Based on the search, Etherington was taken into custody and transported to the Payne County Jail. He was booked on one count of Aggravated Possession of Child Pornography and one count of Violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

NL)--Leonardo’s Children’s Museum will transform its outdoor playground Adventure Quest into a winter wonderland for Nights of Lights. For the first four Fridays of December leading to Christmas, Leonardo’s guests can take pictures with Santa Claus, play with Santa’s elves, make a take-home Christmas craft and enjoy hot chocolate, in addition to more holiday activities. Nights of Lights hours are 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Dec. 2, 9, 16 and 23. General admission is $9, or $5 for Leonardo’s members. Nights of Lights at Adventure Quest is sponsored by Groendyke Transport Inc. CP)--The City of Enid Parks and Recreation will host “Christmas in the Park” at Meadowlake Park from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., one day only this year: Saturday, December 3rd.

 

Families will enjoy various craft and games, as well as have the opportunity to take photos with characters throughout the park.

  • Craft: cookie decorating, ornament making, reindeer food, and toy making.
  • Games: bean bag toss, bowling, can toss, ring hook, ring toss, and tic tac toe.

 

As part of the event, attendees will be able to support three charity drives hosted by Santa and his elves.

  • Toys for Tots: drop-off new, unwrapped toys to be gifted to children in the community.
  • Diaper Drive: diapers and pampers of all sizes to support families in the community. Distribution will be conducted by Community Development Support Association, Inc. (CDSA).
  • Senior Drive: drop-off toiletries that will be gifted to senior citizens at several care facilities. (e.g. toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, shampoo, body wash, etc.)

 

The event is FREE for all ages, however, several of the Enid Kiwanis Club rides will also be open at the park for the kids to enjoy including, the toddler airplanes, toddler cars, carousel, Ferris Wheel, and the train ride! The Kiwanis rides will be for a small fee of $1 per ticket. Don’t miss out on this fun opportunity for the family!

CG)--Tickets still are available for Junior Welfare League of Enid’s 19th annual Charity Gala. This year’s gala, themed “Havana Night,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Stride Bank Center’s arena and will feature a plated dinner, live music from the band “Drive,” a cigar lounge and both silent and live auctions. All of the proceeds from the annual galas are given back to nonprofit organizations in the community, and this year’s beneficiaries are Hope Outreach Parenting Ministry, Bennie’s Barn and Enid Joint Recreation Triad. Individual tickets for the Charity Gala are $85, and tables seating eight people are available to purchase for $800.
