PD)-- Enid Police officials are calling the death of an Enid man struck by a semi Tuesday at one of the busiest intersections in Enid a suicide. The incident occurred about 4:00 Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Van Buren and Garriott and left 64 year-old Thomas Scalley dead. According to the police report, the driver of a 2006 Peterbilt semi told Enid police he was eastbound in the 1000 block of West Garriott and had entered a lane to turn south onto Van Buren. He said he saw Scalley at the intersection and motioned him to cross, but that the man waved him to go ahead and then walked back to the sidewalk. The driver said he proceeded into the intersection to make his right turn and then saw the man being run over by his back, passenger tires. Scalley was pronounced dead at the scene and transported to the Medical Examiner’s office in Oklahoma City. Authorities said officers talked to at least four witnesses, one of whom confirmed the driver’s account of Scalley waving him on and then said he dove “head first underneath the last two tires” on semi’s trailer. Another witness had a video. The police report, lists the incident as suicide and stated there was no improper action by the driver.

ST)--The Enid Police Department is investigating after the mother of a Balko-Forgan football player filed a report saying her son was threatened Friday at a local business. According to the police report, players from the Balko-Forgan football team were in the On Deck store in Oakwood Mall when a store employee made the threat. The mother alleged the employee told her son, who was walking by the back door, to get away from his store or he would shoot him and put him in a body bag. The incident happened before Balko-Forgan’s football playoff game against Oklahoma Bible Academy. According to the report, the player, who is the only Black player on the team, left the store and sat in the bus alone before his teammates joined him. When interviewed by police, the store employee said there were about 30 players who came into the store, and the player involved tried to go into a back room. He said there is a no trespassing sign posted that states violators may be shot. The employee admitted trash talking the kids about the game before they left the store because he is an OBA fan.
