LP)--Enid Regional Development Alliance’s executive director is resigning. ERDA’s Board of Directors accepted the resignation of Lisa Powell, who’s been with ERDA since 2009 and executive director for almost four years, during a special meeting Thursday. The resignation will be effective today. Powell served as ERDA’s associate director for 10 years until being appointed as interim executive director after former ERDA executive director Brent Kisling stepped down in January 2019 to serve as the director of commerce for the state of Oklahoma. Debbie Moore, talent attraction and operations director with ERDA, was appointed as interim executive director, also taking effect today, and the board named a selection committee during the meeting to begin the process to permanently fill the position.

BM)--An Enid woman is facing a charge of child neglect after authorities reportedly found her and two children to allegedly be living in a camper trailer behind a residence in the 2000 block of East Randolph with no water or electricity. 26 year-old Armanda Coulson was charged with the felony Wednesday. According to the report when Enid Police Department officers responded after someone reported hearing a child crying and screaming for several hours. Officers contacted Coulson and two children, ages 2 and 3, in one of the two dilapidated and extremely run-down camper trailers behind a residence. After noting the filthy conditions, the Department of Human Services was called, and authorities learned from speaking with Coulson that there was almost no food, water, electricity or active plumbing inside the camper trailer. After being placed in investigative detention, Coulson was arrested on a complaint of child neglect.

RC)--Beginning today there will be a road closure at the intersection of West Chestnut and Wheatridge Road due to waterline construction for the Kaw Lake Water Supply Project. This work is expected to be completed by end of day Tuesday. Motorists are encouraged to follow posted traffic control signs and to drive with caution in this area during the construction effort.

RD)--The deadline to register to vote in the November 8th general election is end of business today. Voter registration forms can be filled out online, printed and turned into the election board office. Paper voter registration forms are also available at county election boards. The form can be found on the Oklahoma State Election Board website. Absentee ballots are available to all registered voters who request them by Monday, Oct. 24. Absentee ballots must be received by the county election board before 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 8, in order to be counted.

 

Early voting or in-person absentee voting will be available Nov. 2, 3, 4 and 5 at the Garfield County Election board, 903 Failing Drive. Polls will be open 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Nov. 2-4 and 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 5. General Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8, and polls will be open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. To vote in person, voters must bring proof of identity, which can include an Oklahoma driver’s license or ID card, a passport, a military ID, a trial membership or the voter identification card issues by the county election board. To vote absentee, voters must have their ballot notarized unless a voter qualifies for a special exemption on the election board website.

PM)--Enid Regional Development Alliance (ERDA) will host a public meeting allowing citizens the opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and feedback on the neighborhood around the Longfellow Middle School area. The meeting will be on Monday at Open Door Church Gym located at 831 East Broadway from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The gym entrance is on the west side of the building. ERDA, in partnership with RDG Planning & Design, began a process in September to develop a city-wide housing study. This will be a come-and-go event regarding the area around Longfellow Middle School. All information gathered will be included in the overall study. Prior to the meeting ERDA invites the residents to complete an online surveywww.surveymonkey.com/r/enidhousingstudy. The event is free for the public. All interested individuals are invited and encouraged to attend this event.

KC)--Legendary band Kansas is coming to Enid in October. With a legendary career spanning five decades, and selling over 30 million albums worldwide, Kansas established itself as one of America’s iconic classic rock bands. Stride Bank Center officials said the concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21, at Stride Bank Center. Ranging from $45 to $65, plus fees, tickets are available at StrideBankCenter.com or the office on the second floor of the Center.

BS)--The 34th annual Hospice Circle of Love’s Fall Book Sale will be held this month. This year’s sale will be 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21-22, 2022, at the north building of Hospice Circle of Love’s Enid offices, 314 S. 3rd. Thousands of books will be categorized by genre and will include mysteries, westerns, history and military, classics, science fiction, religious, children’s and cookbooks, among others. In addition, there will be puzzles, DVDs, CDs and books on tape. Julie Nelson, event organizer, said most of the books available are in good or great condition and are quite a bargain at just $1 for hardbacks and 50 cents for paperbacks. In addition, small Harlequin-type romance novels sell for $5 a bag. Proceeds from the event benefit patients with Hospice Circle of Love, the mission of which is to help terminally ill patients live a higher quality of life at the end of life. Circle of Love is one of the longest standing hospices in Oklahoma, serving Northwest Oklahoma for nearly 40 years.
