IA)--An Alva woman was hospitalized in Enid Thursday after being injured in a single-vehicle accident near Cherokee in Alfalfa County. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said 34 year-old Heather Lee was taken to Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid, where she was admitted in stable condition with an arm injury. According to the report, the accident happened at 1:15 Thursday afternoon on State Highway 11 about 2.5 miles north of Cherokee. Lee was a passenger in a 2011 Ford Fusion driven by 29 year-old Timothy Toone of Alva who was driving west when his car went off the road, hit a ditch, went airborne and landed in the ditch. Toone was not injured, but a 3-year-old girl in the vehicle was treated at Bass and released. The cause of the accident was listed as inattentive driving. Everyone in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt.

TW)--An Enid woman is facing a felony child abuse charge after allegedly hitting a teenager with a belt and an extension cord. Enid News and Eagle reports 29 year-old Maria Diaz was charged with the single felony count Wednesday after being arrested on Sept. 22. According to an affidavit filed in the case, detectives with Enid Police Department responded on Sept. 22 to a residence on Margaret Circle in reference to child abuse and spoke with Diaz and a 14-year-old girl. They documented a number of bruises the teen had. Diaz reportedly whipped the girl for sneaking out, talking to boys and having falling grades. After being arrested, Diaz’s bond was set at $50,000 and was posted on Monday.

SB)--With the Primary Run-off election results official, registered voters can access sample ballots for the upcoming November 8th General Election. Sample ballots can be viewed and downloaded by using the Oklahoma State Election Board’s OK Voter Portal at https://oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp. Copies also can be picked up at Garfield County Election Board, 903 Failing, during normal business hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sample ballots also will be posted outside every precinct polling place on Election Day so voters can review them before heading to the polls.

PP)--The Paint Enid Pink 5K run will be held Saturday. Paint Enid Pink is presented by Integris Health Imaging and My Country 103.1 KOFM. The race will start at 8:30 a.m. at Crosslin Park. The event is a color fun run to raise awareness and money for Project 31, an Oklahoma-based agency founded by two-time breast cancer survivor Sarah McLean. Registration is $35 per runner, and includes an even t-shirt, and continues through Sept. 30. Register online at paintenidpink.com.

TS)--The 90th Tri-State Music Festival with the parade and field marching contest will be held Saturday. The parade, which begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday downtown, will feature 12 bands that will circle the Square. Then, at 1:30 p.m., 15 bands will compete in the field marching contest at D. Bruce Selby Stadium. In February, Tri-State’s competitions will be held for concert bands, jazz bands, chorus and orchestras on Feb. 14-15. In May, the traditional time for Tri-State through the years, the festival will host solo and ensemble competitions, honor groups and elementary students. The Grand Concert will close out the festival on May 5.

ME)--The Enid Public Library is teaming up with the Micronesian Coalition of Garfield County to host a cultural event. The Micronesian Cultural Event will be held on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the west lawn of the library. The afternoon will feature the Micronesian cultures of the Marshall Islands and the Chuuk. Community members will be able to view traditional garb and handicrafts on site. SP)--City of Enid Parks and Recreation officials say the Hoover and Champion splash pads will close for the 2022 season early next month. Sunday, October 2nd, will be the last day to take a splash. The splash pad hours of operation are 10:00a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. The Hoover Splash Pad is located at 3000 West Oklahoma, and the Champion Splash Pad is located at 700 North 10th Street. Both city splash pads are scheduled to reopen for the 2023 summer season.

GP)--City of Enid Solid Waste Services officials announced the transition of green yard waste polycarts to its Fall and Winter schedule. Beginning Monday, yard waste will be picked up on the same day as household trash. As a reminder, place the green polycarts container at least ten feet of clearance from other containers, parked vehicles, street lampposts, trees, mailboxes and other obstructions at the curb no later than 7:30 a.m. with your household trash. The City-issued green polycarts are used for yard waste such as leaves, twigs, and grass.  Green yard waste polycart containers will not be emptied if they contain household trash. Those who wish to obtain a polycart or an additional polycart, can contact Solid Waste Services at (580) 616-7300.
