NG)--After five days of a trial in Garfield County District Court, a man was found not guilty of first-degree murder in the June 2020 shooting death of an Enid man, but guilty on several other felony counts. The jury returned its verdict Monday night. Enid News and Eagle reports jurors found 23 year-old Jarrod Lee Bergman not guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of 29-year-old Cord Kenneth Allen, but guilty of accessory after the fact, as well as possession of firearms while on probation and intimidation of a witness. Jurors recommended Bergman receive 25 years on the first count, 10 years on the second and five years on the third. Bergman’s sentencing date is scheduled for Oct. 11. 20 year-old Saira Ellen Roberts also was charged in Allen’s death, pleaded guilty on Aug. 31 and was sentenced to life in prison.

DD)--An Enid man is facing a child neglect charge after authorities reportedly found a young child on a front porch and had to wake up the man, who was asleep in a chair outside. 39 year-old Jefferson Jabeo was charged with the felony this week. According to an affidavit filed in the case, a woman called 911 on Sunday and reported she had noticed the child on a front porch in the 1800 block of East Oklahoma. According to the report, Enid Police Department officers arrived around 10:30 p.m. and found the 5-year-old sitting on the front porch and Jabeo asleep in a chair in the driveway. According to the affidavit, officers attempted to wake Jabeo up by speaking to and shaking him, clapping their hands and tapping his foot before being able to shake him awake. Police reported Jabeo’s eyes were watery and bloodshot and that he “appeared confused” when officers asked him what was going on. Jabeo was then told he had been asleep outside, leaving the child unattended.

NA)--Alexis Ross, of Enid, was honored with the 2022 National YouthBuild AmeriCorps Spirit of Service Award. Officials said she was selected from thousands of members across the country to receive one of the four awards. Ross is a member of Community Development Support Association YouthBuild in Enid. The 25 year-old mother of three, enrolled in CDSA YouthBuild after she moved to Enid from Dallas. Ross completed her online high school program in nine months and also worked her AmeriCorps program hours doing community service in construction. In addition to earning her high school diploma, she also earned a number of construction certifications and is currently is working on her CNA certification.

PP)--The Paint Enid Pink 5K run will be held Saturday. Paint Enid Pink is presented by Integris Health Imaging and My Country 103.1 KOFM. The race will start at 8:30 a.m. at Crosslin Park. The event is a color fun run to raise awareness and money for Project 31, an Oklahoma-based agency founded by two-time breast cancer survivor Sarah McLean. Registration is $35 per runner, and includes an even t-shirt, and continues through Sept. 30. Register online at paintenidpink.com.

TS)--The 90th Tri-State Music Festival with the parade and field marching contest will be held Saturday. The parade, which begins at 10:00 a.m. Saturday downtown, will feature 12 bands that will circle the Square. Then, at 1:30 p.m., 15 bands will compete in the field marching contest at D. Bruce Selby Stadium. In February, Tri-State’s competitions will be held for concert bands, jazz bands, chorus and orchestras on Feb. 14-15. In May, the traditional time for Tri-State through the years, the festival will host solo and ensemble competitions, honor groups and elementary students. The Grand Concert will close out the festival on May 5.

ME)--The Enid Public Library is teaming up with the Micronesian Coalition of Garfield County to host a cultural event. The Micronesian Cultural Event will be held on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the west lawn of the library. The afternoon will feature the Micronesian cultures of the Marshall Islands and the Chuuk. Community members will be able to view traditional garb and handicrafts on site. SP)--City of Enid Parks and Recreation officials say the Hoover and Champion splash pads will close for the 2022 season early next month. Sunday, October 2nd, will be the last day to take a splash. The splash pad hours of operation are 10:00a.m. to 9:00 p.m., seven days a week. The Hoover Splash Pad is located at 3000 West Oklahoma, and the Champion Splash Pad is located at 700 North 10th Street. Both city splash pads are scheduled to reopen for the 2023 summer season.

GP)--City of Enid Solid Waste Services officials announced the transition of green yard waste polycarts to its Fall and Winter schedule. Beginning Monday, yard waste will be picked up on the same day as household trash. As a reminder, place the green polycarts container at least ten feet of clearance from other containers, parked vehicles, street lampposts, trees, mailboxes and other obstructions at the curb no later than 7:30 a.m. with your household trash. The City-issued green polycarts are used for yard waste such as leaves, twigs, and grass.  Green yard waste polycart containers will not be emptied if they contain household trash. Those who wish to obtain a polycart or an additional polycart, can contact Solid Waste Services at (580) 616-7300.
