FC)--A Goltry woman was killed Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash west of Enid. 24 year-old Darci Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Willow Road and Boomer Road, about 2 miles west and 1 mile north of Enid. According to the report, Sanders was westbound on Willow at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon in a 2015 Ford Edge when she collided at the uncontrolled intersection with a Terragator driven by 23 year-old Colton Wichert of Enid that was northbound on Boomer Road. Wichert was not injured in the crash, which remains under investigation.

CF)—A good crowd was on hand for Tuesday’s Republican primary candidate forum at the Stride Bank Center, which was carried live on Talk 100.9 KGWA. The forum was sponsored Enid News and Eagle, Williams Media Group, the city of Enid and Enid Public Schools. The forum featured four Republican candidates for State Superintendent of Public Education, April Grace, John Cox, Ryan Walters, current Oklahoma state secretary of education; and William Crozier. The U. S. District 3 forum featured candidate Wade Burleson, of Enid, and Evan Handy, campaign manager standing in for incumbent U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas, who was not available due to voting duties in Washington, D.C. If you missed the forum you can see it in its entirety on the Talk 100.9 KGWA Facebook page. Primary elections for county, state and federal office are June 28.

CC)—The Enid Mayor and Board of Commissioners Tuesday night approved a new Tax Increment Finance District, and extended a second, related to wind energy operations located in the industrial park east of Enid. The commission also unanimously approved the Enid police union’s two-year collective bargaining agreement, granting a $7,600 increase to patrol officers’ starting pay. The two-year agreement goes into effect on July 1 and includes a new pay plan to raise the annual salary for Enid Police Department patrol officers to nearly $49,300.

EV)--Early voting for the June 28 Primary Election begins Thursday at 8:00 a.m. Republican and Democratic primaries will take place, along with several nonpartisan elections in many counties. In-person absentee voting, more commonly known as “early voting,” will be held Thursday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Early voting is also on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. No excuse is needed to cast an in-person absentee ballot. Early voting locations/dates/times are available on the State Election Board website. Oklahoma has closed primaries. However, for the 2022-2023 election years, the Democratic Party has opened its primaries to registered Independents. Independent voters wishing to vote a Democratic ballot, should let the election worker know when they check in. As a reminder, Independent and Libertarian voters are eligible to vote in any nonpartisan elections on the ballot. Voters with questions should contact their County Election Board.

BR)--The City of Enid Parks and Recreation department will host the 2022 Cardboard and Duct Tape Boat Race on Saturday, June 25th at Champlin Pool from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The entry fee is $15 per team and includes a hot dog, chips and a drink for each team member. Teams must consist of four people, however, there can only be two people in the boat. All ages are welcomed, but team members 9 and younger must have an adult in the boat with them. Participants 12 and younger must have adult supervision with them. Life vests are encouraged. There will be six awards given at the event:

  • Titanic Award – Goes to the boat who sinks in the most spectacular fashion
  • Spirit Award – Goes to the team who had the most fun
  • Best Design Award – Goes to the team with the most creative boat 
  • Champion Award –Goes to the team that completes the race the fastest
  • Grand Champion Award – Goes to the team that completes the most laps before sinking
  • Team Awesome Award – Goes to the team that has the most unique team name
