PC)—Vance Air Force Base officials are asking Major County residents to assist in the location of a canopy lost from a training aircraft. A T-38C Talon training aircraft was performing a routine mission over the Ringwood area Monday when the canopy unexpectedly separated from the aircraft. Both pilots on board landed safely at Vance AFB and were unharmed. Following protocol, the pilots were evaluated at the 71st Medical Group on base.  The canopy is 5 feet long, three feet wide and two feet tall. If you locate it, contact Vance AFB. “We train our pilots to be the best in the world and thoroughly prepare them for any kind of emergency,” said Col. Jay Johnson, 71st Flying Training Wing commander. “Our Airmen are our most important resource. We train our pilots to expect the unexpected and this is an outstanding example of our pilots showcasing their skills.” The cause of the incident is under investigation.

KL)--The completion date for the Kaw Lake Water Pipeline project has been pushed back. Enid City Commissioners were told last week construction on the project now is expected to be substantially complete by the beginning of 2024, about a three-month delay from the initial timeline. Officials for Garney Construction, the construction manager at-risk for the project, told commissioners that a bore realignment on the Arkansas River would take an additional 100 days from the previous substantial completion date of October 2023. Enid’s ongoing water supply project, which spans from the lake in Osage County to the city’s new water treatment plant on West Chestnut, includes boring under the river twice. Also last week, commissioners approved the fourth change order, this time for $1.4 million, to bring Garney’s guaranteed maximum price to nearly $250 million.
