GW)--The Enid area avoided severe weather as rain and thunderstorms moved through overnight. There was a risk of strong winds and large hail as the storm system moved through the state, but there were only scattered reports of power outages including Hennessey and the Oklahoma City metro. Locally, we avoided the wind and hail, but did pick up some rain with locations in Garfield County reporting from a quarter to just over a half inch.

HA)--There will be a variety of Halloween activities open to the public this weekend in Enid. Events begin Friday and continue through Sunday. The Public Library of Enid and Garfield County will have a costume contest and trick-or-treat event for children of all ages on Friday at 10:00 a.m. On Friday, Gaslight Theatre starts a three-performance presentation of the “War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast,” presented in the Turpin theater. Tickets are $10 general admission. Tickets and show times are available at www.GaslightTheatre.org

 

On Saturday, Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center will host a fun-filled, hands-on experience for the whole family during the annual Family Farm Day. The event will be from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is included in the price of admission. Leonardo’s Children’s Museum is hosting Happy HalloLeo’s on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Events will include a costume parade, Halloween arts and science projects, jack-o-lantern painting and pumpkin carving. Also on Saturday, downtown businesses will be participating in a Downtown Enid Trick-Or-Treat Bash from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. About 30 businesses all over the downtown district will be passing out candy. Atwoods Annual Pet Costume Contest will be from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The event includes pet vendors, food trucks, axe throwing, a petting zoo and animal adoptions. The city of Enid Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Spook-tacular Halloween at the Haunted Gym at Champion Park from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday. Oakwood Bowl, 4709 W. Garriott, will host a trunk or treat event Saturday from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

 

On Sunday, in number of local churches will host trunk-or-treat and Fall festival events.

SC)--Waukomis Elementary School is inviting the public to a day of fun and celebration at its annual carnival fundraiser this weekend. A variety of carnival games will be featured from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday. There also will be face painting, a country store, a cake walk and more. Game tickets are 25 cents each. Pizza will be served in the cafeteria at noon. Students are selling raffle tickets for $1. Items that will be raffled include a smart TV, fire pit, corn hole boards, gas grill, air fryer, doorbell camera and other great prizes. This year’s carnival fundraiser comes as the new elementary school has broken ground north of the district’s field house, set to replace the current building, which will be torn down.

CV)— Thirty-three deaths and 865 newly-confirmed coronavirus cases were reported in the state, according to daily numbers released late this morning by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Currently, 6,337 Oklahomans are considered active cases in the state, with 512 people currently hospitalized in Oklahoma for treatment of the virus. The seven-day rolling average for new cases reported was 800.

There have been 10077 positive COVID-19 cases, and 199 deaths in Garfield County. 8950 of those cases and 184 deaths have been in Enid. In surrounding counties: Kingfisher County has reported 2576 cases, Blaine County is at 1492 cases, Alfalfa 1299, Major 1251, and Grant 692.

HG)--The City of Enid Parks and Recreation Department invites the public to the Haunted Gym at Champion Park. The Haunted Gym will feature two outside attractions and 11 eerily-themed rooms with lots of spooky creatures around every corner. The contents of the mystery room will be revealed the night of the event. FF)--“You’ve Got a Friend in Me” is the theme for the 2021 Fall Festival at Willow View United Methodist Church in Enid. The free Halloween evening event is designed to appeal to families and children. Activities include outdoor inflatable games and numerous other carnival-style games for children of all ages and abilities. Candy and prizes will be awarded to all participants, and cotton candy will be handed out as well. Fall Festival will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, at Willow View United Methodist Church, 3525 W. Purdue. The public is invited, and ample parking is available. Halloween costumes are optional.

YR)--A slate of local activities is planned in observance of Veterans Day. Operation Yellow Ribbon kicks off Veterans Appreciation Week the first Saturday in November to thank veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park, the city of Enid, My Country KOFM and Visit Enid are joining to host various events from Nov. 6 to Nov. 19, including an honor ride, tree planting, a free meal, concerts, Veterans Day ceremony, a parade and citywide yellow ribbon displays. The yellow ribbon is meant to symbolize support of soldiers away from home, as well as for those who have served.

 

Operation Yellow Ribbon begins at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, with the Ride to Remember. The ride will leave the Wall of Honor at 1026 S. 66th, to Veterans’ Memorial Bridge on North Van Buren, then head to Ponca City for its Veterans Day parade. On Monday, Nov. 8, a yellow ribbon ceremony will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. on Park south of Stride Bank Center, current home of the newly installed Christ Tree. There will be a special ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 9, on Kincade Drive, the road leading to Vance Air Force Base. Two oak trees will be planted, one to honor current military members and the other to remember the fallen and the families of those missing in action. On Wednesday, Nov. 10, Railroad Museum of Oklahoma will serve a free lunch for veterans who RSVP at least 24 hours in advance. To sign up, call (580) 233-3051. On Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11, a ceremony will be held at Stride Bank Center at 6:30 p.m. The annual Legacy Awards ceremony honors veterans for their service to their community and country. Enid’s Veterans Day Parade will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. The parade starts at the corner of Grand and Maine. Following the parade, there will be a static aircraft display, food trucks, vendors and a car show downtown.
