GB)--The Advance Soccer Complex will host a groundbreaking ceremony 10 a.m.  Tuesday celebrating the completion of a $4 million capital campaign and the beginning of construction on the clubhouse. The public is invited to attend the event, which will be held at the soccer complex site, 1526 S. Garland Road. The project includes a seven-field soccer complex complete with a 20,000- to 24,000-square-foot clubhouse, playground, water features, practice fields and one turf field. The campaign surpassed its previous goal of $3.5 million, which was needed to meet the project’s $9.5 million goal. The city of Enid covered $3 million in construction expenses, while the Allen Family Foundation and the McLaughlin Family Foundation each donated $1.5 million.

WW)--Lt. Warren Wilson was selected by the Enid Police Civil Service Commission to serve as the next captain for the Enid Police Department. His career in law enforcement began at the North Enid Police Department, serving as a patrolman for two years and serving as chief for three and a half more. Wilson says he'd pretty much done what I could do there, and applied at the Enid Police Department for the opportunities it presented.

EM)--The Enid Majors closed out a perfect season with a 4-1 win over D-BAT United on Saturday, winning the Connie Mack World Series. Enid entered the World Series with a perfect 29-0 record coming off wins in the South Plains Regional and Connie Mack state championship. On their way to winning the title, Enid scored 90 runs in nine games including a game that was called in the second inning due to weather. Before Enid’s 4-1 win on Saturday, its closest game in the World Series came in an 8-2 win. The team finished with a run differential of +71 in the tournament. Congratulations to the Enid Majors.

RC)--Beginning today railroad crossings will be closed to allow Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway to make repairs to the railway. The first closure will be a portion of North Washington between West Chestnut and West Walnut. The second closure will be a portion of North Cleveland between Hunters Hills Drive and Rolling Oaks Drive. The closures will take place between 6:00am and 6:00pm, and are expected to last about a week.

 

A portion of East Randolph between North 6th and North 7th will be closed to through traffic beginning August 3rd. This closure is expected to last approximately one week and will allow crews to make repairs to the street and to improve the crosswalk structure to meet the ADA requirements.

CN)— Fifteen more newly confirmed virus-related deaths and 5,597 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the state since Friday, according to daily numbers released late this morning by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Currently, 14,283 Oklahomans are considered active cases in the state, with 739 people hospitalized in Oklahoma for treatment of the virus. The seven-day rolling average for new cases reported was 1,627.

There have been 7952 positive COVID-19 cases, and 139 deaths in Garfield County. 7033 of those cases and 128 deaths have been in Enid. In surrounding counties: Kingfisher County has reported 2086 cases, Alfalfa 1156, Blaine County is at 1071 cases, Major 968, and Grant 562.

IC)--Foreigner, iconic rock band hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world, is bringing “The Greatest Hits of Foreigner on Tour” to Stride Bank Center on Thursday. TH)--Oklahoma’s annual sales tax holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 6 and end at midnight Aug. 8. Certain clothing and shoe purchases of less than $100 are exempt from sales tax for this time period only. Qualified items are exempt from state, city, county and local sales taxes. The holiday is meant to help businesses and allow consumers to save money in time for back-to-school shopping trips. Retailers are required to participate and may not charge sales tax on approved items this weekend. DD)--Have the “Dog Days of Summer” made you feel a little ruff? Lucky for you and your pup, the City of Enid Parks and Recreation department is ensuring that every Enid dog will have its day. Officials have announced that there will be not one, but two events highlighting man’s best friend. Runners and dog owners are invited to come out to Crosslin Park the morning of Saturday, August 14th as the City of Enid Parks and Recreation department hosts the Fast and the Furriest 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. Pre-Registration/Packet pick-up is at 5:30am at Pavilion #1 and the races begins at 6 a.m. The fee for the 1-mile run is $10 and $20 for the 5k event, dogs get in free.

 

Later that afternoon, join the City of Enid Parks and Recreation department at Champlin Pool for their annual Doggie Dip. This popular event takes place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 14th and allows dogs to enjoy the hot August sun and make a splash. From active Aussies to lazy Labs, all dogs are welcome.
