HA)--A Heat Advisory is in effect from noon until 7:00pm this evening. Heat index values could reach 107 degrees across northern, central, and southern Oklahoma. The hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

TO)--Seventy-five more COVID-19 cases were reported over the past week in Garfield County as many of Oklahoma’s counties, including Garfield, have turned “orange,” Oklahoma State Department of Health reported on Wednesday. Cases in Garfield County increased to a total of 7,952, with 58 active and 7,755, or 98%, recovered, according to OSDH. The majority of the cases, 7,033, or 88.5%, have been in Enid, which reported 50 active cases and 6,855 recovered. Of the county’s 139 deaths, 128 have been in Enid, according to OSDH city data, with five in Lahoma, one each in Drummond, Fairmont, Garber, Covington and Waukomis, and one not listed by town.

CN)--Ten more newly-confirmed virus-related deaths and 1,806 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the state since Wednesday, according to daily numbers released by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Currently, 10,679 Oklahomans are considered active cases in the state, with 658 people hospitalized in the state for treatment of the virus. The seven-day rolling average for new cases reported was 1,268.

There have been 7952 positive COVID-19 cases, and 139 deaths in Garfield County. 7033 of those cases and 128 deaths have been in Enid. In surrounding counties: Kingfisher County has reported 2086 cases, Alfalfa 1156, Blaine County is at 1071 cases, Major 968, and Grant 562.

Kevin Boryczki, general manager of Stride Bank Center said “This is our first major concert since COVID, and I would expect it to be a full crowd and a great turnout, based off the response we’ve had for similar shows, like Chicago, ZZ Top and REO Speedwagon.

TH)--Oklahoma’s annual sales tax holiday will begin at 12:01 a.m. Aug. 6 and end at midnight Aug. 8. Certain clothing and shoe purchases of less than $100 are exempt from sales tax for this time period only. Qualified items are exempt from state, city, county and local sales taxes. The holiday is meant to help businesses and allow consumers to save money in time for back-to-school shopping trips. Retailers are required to participate and may not charge sales tax on approved items this weekend. DD)--Have the “Dog Days of Summer” made you feel a little ruff? Lucky for you and your pup, the City of Enid Parks and Recreation department is ensuring that every Enid dog will have its day. Officials have announced that there will be not one, but two events highlighting man’s best friend. Runners and dog owners are invited to come out to Crosslin Park the morning of Saturday, August 14th as the City of Enid Parks and Recreation department hosts the Fast and the Furriest 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. Pre-Registration/Packet pick-up is at 5:30am at Pavilion #1 and the races begins at 6 a.m. The fee for the 1-mile run is $10 and $20 for the 5k event, dogs get in free.

Later that afternoon, join the City of Enid Parks and Recreation department at Champlin Pool for their annual Doggie Dip. This popular event takes place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 14th and allows dogs to enjoy the hot August sun and make a splash. From active Aussies to lazy Labs, all dogs are welcome. HS)--Enid Chamber of Commerce is encouraging people to join fellow Enid and Garfield County residents and participate in the Hope Community Assessment. On October 7, 2021 Oklahoma’s First Lady Sarah Stitt will be hosting the first-ever Hope Summit in Enid. The mission of Hope Rising is to empower people, families, and communities to better their lives through the science of Hope. To help prepare for the summit, they are asking for residents of Enid and Garfield County to participate in a community assessment to best gauge our Hope Level. The assessment takes approximately 10 minutes and can be completed on a computer or mobile device. Assessment Link:
