WW)-- A Winter Storm Warning is in effect locally from 6:00 this evening until noon Friday. Heavy mixed precipitation will be possible across portions of northern, northwest, western, and southwestern Oklahoma this evening through noon Friday. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of around two tenths of an inch will be possible, with winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Travel could be very difficult. If you have plans to travel for New Year's Eve, prepare for winter weather, and be very careful.

IV)--Enid area first responders and health care workers are being administered COVID-19 vaccinations during an event today at Stride Bank Center, 301 S. Independence. Only first responders and health care workers are eligible for these vaccinations. Health care workers and first responders are the initial groups that will receive the vaccine in Points of Dispensing Sites, or PODS, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health. Oklahomans who are 65 and older also will be able to receive the vaccine at PODS locations in the coming weeks, as OSDH transitions into phase 2 of its vaccine distribution.

RC)--The City of Enid will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony next week for the new skate park. On Friday, January 8th 10:30 AM the public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Enid Skate Park, located at 124 North 5th Street. Special guest will be Enid native and world renowned violinist Kyle Dillingham, who not only is known for playing the violin, but is an avid skateboarder.

NL)--Be listening beginning Friday for the new KGWA weekday evening lineup. Hear Ben Shapiro from 5:00-7:00 p.m., the Dana Show from 7:00-10:00 p.m., and Caravan to Midnight from 10:00-12:00 p.m. Again, the new KGWA weekday evening lineup begins Friday.

CN)—Thirty-six new virus-related deaths and 3,906 new coronavirus cases were reported in the state since Wednesday, according to daily numbers released late this morning by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. OSDH said 32,604 cases are considered currently active in the state, with 1924 people currently hospitalized for treatment of the virus.

There have been 5394 positive COVID-19 cases, and 43 deaths in Garfield County. 4739 of those cases and 41 deaths have been in Enid. In surrounding counties: Kingfisher County has reported 1357 cases, Alfalfa 932, Major 716, Blaine County is at 660 cases, and Grant 380.

DD)--Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s ENDUI team will partner with law enforcement agencies across the state to conduct DUI checkpoints and provide extra patrols for New Year’s Eve to crack down on impaired drivers. It’s part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over effort. Additional deputies, troopers and officers will be on duty statewide looking for impaired drivers. If you are going to drink, Oklahomans are urged to find a safe ride by calling a sober driver, using a cab, Uber, Lyft or any other ride-share service, or having a designated driver.

CS)--In observance of the New Year’s holidays, the City of Enid Administration offices, Enid Animal Welfare, Enid Public Library, Enid Public Transportation Authority and Recycle Center will be closed on Friday. The landfill will be open on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., but will be closed on Friday. City officials announced that the Friday trash route will not be collected on January 1, but instead Monday, January 4.
