NM)--A four-hour special meeting Wednesday night culminated with the Enid City Commission voting 5-2 against a mandatory mask wearing ordinance in Enid. Commissioners Ben Ezzell and Jonathan Waddell voted for the proposal, while Mayor Pankonin, and Commissioners Jerry Allen, Derwin Norwood, Rob Stallings, and David Mason voted against the proposal. During the meeting, residents attending in person, as well as online in via Zoom let their thoughts be known.

 

While there is not a state or municipal requirement to wear a mask, keep in mind that individual retailers and other locations may require a mask to enter their buildings. The latest example, Walmart will require customers to wear face coverings at all of its stores, including the Supercenter and Neighborhood Market in Enid and other stores in Northwest Oklahoma.

PF)--The Enid chapter of the NAACP and District Attorney Mike Fields will host a forum on race, equality and the criminal justice system at 6:00 this evening at West Side Church of God in Christ, 1902 W. Chestnut. Organizers said the event is designed to continue to build ties between all segments of Enid, law enforcement and the district attorney's office. The event will be an opportunity for members of the public to discuss concerns about systemic racism in the justice system and to address topics related to equality in policing and sentencing. The public is invited to attend.
