FC)--A Ringwood man and his passenger were killed in an ATV crash early this morning in Major County. 29 year-old John Schmidt of Ringwood and 29 year-old Jason Michael Dunlap of Hominy were pronounced dead from multiple injuries at the scene of the crash on a county road approximately 1 mile west and 2 miles north of Ringwood. Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said Schmidt was driving a 2015 Can-Am east on the county road at a high rate of speed around 1:45 this morning when the vehicle departed the roadway into the ditch and rolled one time before striking a tree. Neither man was wearing a helmet. The cause of the crash was listed as Unsafe Speed. The crash and Schmidt’s condition at the time remain under investigation.

CV)— Three new virus-related deaths and 603 new coronavirus cases were reported in the state since Wednesday, according to daily numbers released late this morning by the Oklahoma State Department of Health. A total of 18,496 Oklahomans have tested positive for COVID-19 and the total number of deaths is now 410. A total of 1,893 Oklahomans have been hospitalized due to the virus with 453 patients are currently in the hospital.

 

There have been 93 positive COVID-19 cases, and two deaths in Garfield County. 89 of those cases have been in Enid. In surrounding counties: Noble has reported 50 cases, Kingfisher County has reported 39 cases, Blaine County is at 18 cases, Major 10, Grant 2, and Alfalfa 1.

IC)--The City of Enid Engineering Department announced lane closures near the intersection of Cleveland and Owen K. Garriott beginning today. The lane closures will consist of the:

  • Northbound outside lane of South Cleveland between Indian Drive and Owen K Garriott
  • Eastbound outside lane of  Garriott between Cleveland and South Hayes

This lane closures will allow contractors to construct new approaches and curbs associated with the new development and is anticipated to take two weeks to complete. Motorists are encouraged to follow posted traffic control signs and drive with extreme caution in the area during construction.

LB)--The Enid Public Library, in partnership with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and Loaves & Fishes, will be offering Lunch Bunch each week, Monday through Friday through August 14. Lunches will be served from noon to 1:00 p.m. behind Mercy House (located at 1714 S 4th Street) to anyone up to 18 years old. FF)--Senior and low-income residents in the Enid area can receive free electric box fans thanks to a partnership between OG&E, RSVP of Enid, United Way of Enid & Northwest Oklahoma, The Salvation Army of Enid and Stride Bank. Christy Baker, Executive Director of RSVP of Enid said, the partnerships will allow 250 fans to be dispersed to the homes of the area’s most vulnerable.
